I've been here for 23.

Do early retirement packages often offer health benefits?

1. You'd have to ask HR about that
Are you in a classified position or administrative? CCS employees at Ohio State aren't protected by a union, but are more protected than A&P staff.

Are they allowing you the full benefits (as if you worked 30 year or whatever their max is for calculating your benefits)?

What's the job market like if you need to or want to return to work?

Are you part of a state-wide employees retirement system or a university system? A rep at the organization that manages the retirement funds should be able to answer questions about the advantages to taking it now over waiting (assuming there even are any...)

Good luck.

3. university-wide, unionized
The specific details for each person are going to be mailed out to them individually, so I don't know all of the answers just yet.

I would continue to work, but I would try to get into a different field.

7. I'm sorry

They did the same at Ohio State a few years ago. The minimum age was too high for so many.

9. MM: I retired at 59, several years ahead of my original plans.
I love every minute of it, will be 2 years in May.
Little less money than what I thought, but enough and about zero stress, no bosses, no driving to work in the ice storms, etc.

I am painting again, and occasionally selling stuff on eBay for a few bucks to spend wildly, and spending too much time on this forum.

My wife and my dog are both very happy that I'm home, too.
