Poll question: To the employed: Do you worry about your job security?
What's your level of insecurity (if any) and what do you do? How long have you been at your job? What else can you tell us about it?

1. I'm self-employed.
So, I'm always worried about where my next paycheck is coming from.

2. I have a government job
in the blue state of maryland, so as long as O'Malley wins reelection in 2010, I should be fine

5. Same here
I work in a stable agency that will more than likely always be around, even though our Republican governor seems hellbent on cutting it to ribbons. I am also only one of two people in my agency of 8,000 employees that does my job, and have a bit of seniority, so my job is fairly safe.

I took a very big cut in potential future earnings to join the public sector five years ago, but in times like this I am grateful that I did. Right now, I'll take a smaller, secure paycheck over a bigger, insecure paycheck any day.

3. I have 30 years in health care and just got "called off" for the third time in 2 weeks..
which means I only worked 1/2 of my scheduled hours. I won't get laid off...I just won't get to work!

4. I'm point "man" on the "dream team" here
working on a HUGH company project. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon!:)
And in the next week is my one year anniversary of being hired on permanently. I've actually been here for about 18 months..6 months as a temp.
I'm pretty safe. As long as there are clinical trials running...:)

6. Not unless we get ratfucked on the contract...
I can't help but wonder if the other half of our "joint venture" is working up ways to get our company kicked out of here.

8. I am not worried as long as this company doesn't go belly up.
We are a publishing firm that puts out 30 monthly state magazines. Advertising is down and that is what keeps the magazines going. Subscribers are just a drop in the bucket. At this time, I have job security because out of 3 employees in my department, I am the only one remaining. The other two were laid off right before Xmas. So, I m actually doing the work of three people with no increase in pay.

9. I am terrified of losing my job..
and even if I wasn't, Management
would remind me EVERY DAY, that
it might be my last week.

I HATE my job.

But here in Michigan, I can't find
anything else paying even REMOTELY what
I am earning...

10. Fairly secure ... I think
I am working for a construction company working on the expansion of a water treatment plant, so that's money that's already been apportioned by bond and a surety. It's another 3 or 3 1/2 years before the project is complete, so I know I'm ok for a while unless I majorly eff up.
