I love the semicolon.
It is one of the most under-appreciated of punctuation marks.

It's like a colon with a little wink; I dare say it's even a little sexy.

Let's give some love to the semicolon.

My head feels funny.

3. If there is a sudden over/misuse of the semicolon in the same manner that the ellipses has been
abused, I will hold you personally responsible.

7. It does seem trixy to me as well
Winking or not, its misuse has to do with subordination. I fear.

8. I find the semi-colon perplexing...
I rarely use it unless MS Word tells me to.

11. I like the semicolon itself, but whenever I see the word "semicolon,"

I always think of the small intestines. Which kind of wrecks the mood.

17. I use it often
as it's great for breaking up run-on sentences and other such things that happen in story-telling and newspaper reporting like in a dramatic reading of the Wallstreet Journal.

18. I believe the English spell it "semicoloun"
and prounounce it "semiff-klun, old chap" whilst spanking their chambermaids.

And before you ask, yes, all British people paddle their chambermaids. It's like their version of the Pledge of Allegiance, only they take it seriously and don't throw the words "under God" into the middle of the business every time they want to act holier than thou.

Being British means never having to act holier than thou.

21. That's just because the British are trying to cheat at Scrabble.
Care of Eddie Izzard :P
Now I just wanna talk quickly about language, and then we can all go. Yeah, language. They do say Britain and America are two countries separated by the Atlantic Ocean, and it’s true. No, they say, “two countries separated by a common language,” that’s the line; it’s an Oscar Wilde line, I think. And we do pronounce things in a different way, like you say “caterpillar” and we say “caterpillar,” and… You say “aluminum” and we say “aluminium.” You say, “centrifugal” and we say “centrifugal.” You say, “leisure” and we say “lizuray.” You say “baysil” and we say “bahsil.” You say “’erbs” and we say “herbs,” because there’s a fucking “H” in it… But you spell "through" THRU, and I’m with you on that, ‘cause we spell it “THRUFF,” and that’s trying to cheat at Scrabble.

“How can we get that “OU” sound?”

“Well, a “U” will work,”

“What about an “O” as well?”

“We don’t need it, we’re fine.”

“No, I think an “O” in.”

“Well, all right.”

“And a “G” as well.”

“What?!”

“Yes, a “G” would be good. We need a silent “G” in the background, in case of any accidents or something.”

“Well, all right.”

“And an “H” as well.”

“Fucking ‘ell! Hang on.”

“An “H” in case some herbs come along.”

“All right…”

“And a Q, and a P, and a Z… Look it’s a word in Scrabble that’s 480 points!”

23. I thought it was a GB Shaw line.
From what I understand, Wilde didn't care to find familiarities with Americans, much less comment upon them.

(PS, if you were British, you would have read the preceding words as "muuch less cahment upaawn thehm.")

19. I find it useful, but here is my favorite author's take on the semicolon
"Here is a lesson in creative writing. First rule: Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college."

- Kurt Vonnegut, ¨A Man Without a Country¨
