The IRS sucks
I just got a letter telling me I owe over $350 for 2007 taxes that I already filed AND received a refund minus the $900 I was supposed to receive as part of the stimulus package last year so I assumed they took whatever was owed from that $900.

PLUS, I have til March 2 to pay or I get hit with fines. THEY'VE HAD AN ENTIRE YEAR TO CALCULATE AND NOTIFY ME! Why now? WTF?

Screw them!

Except I'd pay 100 buck for a can of paint due to all the ridiculous Canadian taxes.

4. I feel your pain, gray.
Our accountant messed up big time in 2004 calculating the taxes on options of Mr's we exercised to add on to the house.

Last year ----- FOUR FUCKING YEARS LATER, we get hit with a bill that topped $60,000 in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties.

And, our accountant had an aneurysm in 2007, so he was absolutely no good to us at all.

It sucked. I can't even begin to tell you how awful that feeling was sitting there and dealing with those bloodsuckers.

It was a completely honest mistake, but they didn't want to hear it.

5. Oh man, now that really really sucks
At least I can chew nails while I pay mine with a credit card. Did you manage to pay it off?

9. Yeah, we did.
We were going to work out a payment plan, but they won't do one if you owe over $25,000, so Mr. just decided to pay it all off.

Let me tell you. It hurt. A lot. Especially when TM's tuition came due the next month.

We're very lucky we had the cash, but with the economy tanking like it did, our savings have plummetted and Mr. isn't in the best of health. He was hoping to retire in about 4 years, but now if he can keep his job and I can keep mine, we'll just keep plugging away.

The real suckage was that TMs 529, which was to pay for her college, lost 60% of its value. So, here we were scrimping to put the money in all thsee years and now scrimping to pay tuition because the funds just aren't there. We rolled hers over to BoyM's in the hopes it rebounds a bit and are just paying her tuition outright.

Perfect example of how doing everything the way you're 'supposed to' comes right back to bite you on the ass.

11. No shit.
I swear to god, with all the little petty crimes I pulled when I was a kid--I never got caught. Now, I play it straight, do what I'm supposed to and end up getting raped and murdered by the IRS.

6. They took my $300 "stimulus" return last year
and applied it to a student loan I have no way of paying because the fact I can't pay it keeps me from continuing my education to pay it.

Can't wait for the buttfucking I get this year...

8. It only happens to people with no money.
How they expect people to come up with money to give them astounds me, expecially now. I want an itemized accout of where my taxes go. Fuck this....they just randomly send out an amount and we have NO IDEA who gets it. Oh, I know it goes to Iraq and bank CEO's, but I want to know who, what, when, where and why.

13. Heh, yea.. $300 at the time
may have actually stimulated me to fix my van that month which later died.

I love Obama, but I'm so disheartened that hearing all this "stimulus" news/BS is killing me.

:grr:

15. I love the guy too, but whatever they're doing is not helping us.
Instead of giving money to banks, credita card co's and businesses, they chould lay $10,000 on each and every American citizen. THAT would stimulate the economy.

10. It should be a CRIME having to pay taxes on unemployment.
You may have to make a deal to pay in installments. They love that shit coz they can get interest on it. What a fucking racket. They're like the mob.

12. i think that's what pisses me off most
there's a reason i'm drawing unemployment fucksticks!

that and the fact that those assholes don't pay me interest on my refund. i looked into installments and i'd have to pay extra to do that.

14. They get you one way or the other.
I need to find out if I can write off that payment since I'm paying it this year. You never know with those assholes. See, this is why small business gets fucked in the end. I had a small editing business but I did not make enough to have any write offs. Only BIG corporations make out. Not little guys, like us.

i'm single, have no kids and rent my house, so there are no breaks for me. i know that it's expensive to raise kids, but not having kids means i'm not using any additional government resources.
