1. it does go around and around and around
and mine is broken so there are all these records sitting around, good old stuff from the alternative days, that are not being played. Boo-hoo.

6. we bought a used one, but it didn't seem to work for very long
there are actually too many media choices, it is so confusing,,, MP3 and CDs and tapes ( still have plenty of those, too), and players in the car and what have you.

Soon there will be one, if there isn't already, that you can plug right into your cerebellum or something ( sounds like a Yale media lab type of thing.)

7. What kind of turntable did you get (the new one)?
I just bought a new VPI Scout a few months ago. I still can't believe how much better it sounds than the Linn Basik I was listening to for the last 10 years. It did cost 3X as much as the Linn did though.

10. Dude...
my CAR didn't cost 3x as much as a Linn!

Okay, it did. Still, I'm more of a stereo-component-turntable guy. Not that if I HAD the $$$ to spend on a turntable I wouldn't spend it.

I got a decent (not super-great, but pretty good) Stanton. Picked up a good cartridge. Sounds great.

11. I have a Clearaudio table

Great table - mid-level in the Clearaudio line.

Blew all the money on the rest of the components. :)

5. Not so much the phonograph, but the vinyl records for it.
There's a lot of great music that has not been transferred to tape or CD but it's still found on vinyl. Going to a record store is akin to an archaelogical dig for a music lover. Stuff like comedy albums by the Smothers Brothers, Lenny Bruce, Belle Barth, etc. or the original Buddy Holly and the Crickets, etc.

The pops and cracks, etc. on some albums don't bother me as I'm used to hearing them and besides, it would only be relative to the fidelity of a CD, etc.

8. damn effective
especially with vinyl that's made to last unlike that crap they were putting out when they were trying to phase it out around 1988.

9. My turntable is over thirty years old...
and still works fine. I have a tin ear so I wouldn't know good from bad, besides all my music is on vinyl and most over thirty years old. Hey, a Beatles Double White album that has been played 2-300 times sound great to me.

I guess the only problem I've had with it was an incident that involved a two year old kid and the stylist. Forty bucks for a new stylist and I was back in business. Jeez, I think the whole turntable cost forty bucks new.

12. My turntable just pooped out
OK, it's my roommate's turntable, but I don't have one, so that's the one I use, and it doesn't work anymore. WAAAAAAHHHHH!
