I prayed yesterday...

I don't usually ask for "stuff" when I pray. I tend to be more meditative; and seek guidance and understanding, since my faith is pretty amorphous in nature.

Yesterday was different, though. I was infuriated by a CNN report of a Baptist minister who put up a sign saying, "AIDS is God's curse for the homosexual lifestyle" or some such drivel. Apparently, even his congregation complained; but his reply was, "I'll take that sign down when God gives me a sign."

My first thought was that the most fitting sign God could give this man, would be to give him AIDS...just long enough for him to get an inkling of what people with this disease suffer...then allow us to find a cure. Then I got into a more prayerful mode, and asked whatever powers that be to open the hearts of the intolerant people...Do whatever is necessary to lead them away from hate and bigotry, and sow the seeds of love and compassion.

Kind of weirded me out that Ashcroft was hospitalized... :eyes:

1. For the Good of All Concerned

A friend of mine always ends any invocation with the words:

"for the good of all concerned."

This seems like a positive way to create an outcome.

For example, we can ask that George be granted "relief" from his "presidential burden" for the good of all concerned.

Works for me...

The Bible is not the be-all-end-all of my faith. It's the beginning. It's the map, the guidebook, the arrow. It points the way to God, but it is not God in and of itself. (Yes, yes, inspired word and all that. But still not actually God.)

I wonder if it's possible to make a Golden Calf of the Word? I surmise yes, seeing how Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and their love for a purity system laden with laws.
