7. Now THAT makes me happy!
My bass player is working on transfering more old stuff to digital (mostly demos of stuff that didn't get played live much), so I'll let you know when more gets posted. Hopefully soon, but his gf is leaving for Africa for a year in a couple weeks so it may be awhile. :pals:

5. In order to jump the shark
you need to have a decent show that people took seriously at some time.

10. You have to have been worthy of watching at some point to jump the shark.
American Idol does not qualify.

11. The first 2 seasons had a fresh, innocent, fun, spontaneous feel to them.
Season 1 was a little awkward because it was uncharted territory and there were 2 hosts and a lot of it had the "Issue 1 of a magazine" feel. I think Season 2 was the best season (Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberly Locke were the final 3 contestants). The show had hit its stride and had a fun, freewheeling atmosphere. In the following season things started to get a little ugly and competitive, with complaints of racism and all that. Season 4 was the nail in the coffin, saved only by Bo Bice.

13. I thought the show was pretty good through season 4
I liked season 4 because of Carrie Underwood, even though I don't really like country music. Her performance of Heart's "Alone" is my favorite AI performance ever. Season 5 was when Taylor Hicks won and things have been down hill since then.

12. I am OUTRAGED about them cutting Jamar, but keeping Tatiana, Nick, and Nathan
:wtf: I couldn't believe that crap! And all that after I actually thought the show had turned a new leaf!

14. Jamar was pretty good
I wish they had kept him and cut his buddy Danny (who is SO overrated). It annoys me when people with sob stories get further in the competition than they would've gone otherwise. I'll support Taniana only because I don't like anyone else and she's at least entertaining.

BTW...Jamar could still make it. They are bring back the "Wild Card" episode where I think the judges get to pick contestants for the top 12. I read a rumor that they can pick from people who were in the top 50, not just those who made it to the top 36 (who knows if this is true though).

17. I don't think he is a very good singer
Definitely not a good enough singer to make him stand out. Without the sob story, he would have been lost in the shuffle of contestants and been cut long ago.

16. It's all about controversy, and ratings
They know that only a small portion of the finalists have a chance in hell of winning it all. Only a few stand out as truly talented, or having the likeability/fuckability factor that Amerika craves in its pop stars. The rest are just filler, because they make for good tv, or they fit a demographic quota for the viewing audience. You could see it in the comments they were making when they were looking at the pictures and making final decisions. "She's 16..." Check. She's in. America will root for the kid. There's also always a Sanjaya (8 to 12 year olds), or somebody like the crooner kid with the red hair who appeals to the senior citizens, etc. And Tatiana? She's the one everybody will love to hate, who will generate lots of talk and buzz. There was no way in HELL she wasn't making the next round.

She did so bad during Hollywood week. It was obvious that she was getting special treatment.

22. They seem to be going for more heart strings and entertainment this year . . .
I might have missed it, but I'm nearly sure we've yet to hear Simon say "It's a singing competition" once this season, which does mildly worry me a bit.

23. Even good shows jump the shark
and just because you do not like a show does not mean it is garbage or unwatchable, it just is to you. Actually, to be part of the elite at DU you should not be watching tv at all.

25. I think that happened on the first ever episode
or likely the first time someone dreamed up the idea - that's when it "jumped the shark".

By the way, when are we going to start discussing when "jumped the shark" jumped the shark? It did a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago.
