The Gorilla of Wall Street, as Fuld was known, steered Lehman deep into the business of subprime mortgages, bankrolling lenders across the country that were making convoluted loans to questionable borrowers. Lehman even made its own subprime loans. The firm took those loans, whipped them into bonds and passed on to investors billions of dollars of what is now toxic debt. For all this wealth destruction, Fuld raked in nearly $500 million in compensation during his tenure as CEO, which ended when Lehman did.

It's insane.

I used to work for him - I respected him. He was actually pretty good and conservative (in a business sense) not following idiotic fads and other shit that wrecked investment banks in the 90s and early 00s. And then we got all greedy and bought into the debt fad and drove a 156 year old good company (in which I was heavily invested because of stock from bonuses and whatnot...) into the ground. Right into the ground.

And, for whatever reason of bad karma in my life, it's the only bank that the government didn't bail out. Fuckers.
