1. You should come to the midwest in July, when I plan to be there.
Until then, you should come to the great unwashed West.

17. FYI, sweetcorn is exciting around here...
...because it is a diversion from the intense ennui of our painfully uneventful, meandering lives.

21. Painfully uneventful lives? What a crock of shit.
The midwest is where it's at. It's where I do my work, and live my life without a bunch of extraneous bullshit getting in the way. I love living in my city of only about 100,000 and being able to do whatever I need to get done at any time, without the bullshit of 12,900,000 other space wasters getting in my fucking way.

24. Sorry, East coast humor. Not everyone finds it funny.
I find suburban Ohio to be an easy place to live, but at the same time there is really nothing special about it. Plus I find people really uptight around here. Back East I lived in the sticks toward western MA. Maybe it is hometown bias, but it just seemed like the place had a lot more character than Ohio does. There was a greater variety in merchants, landscape, cultural attractions and I could park on the street without getting towed. We had mountains and the ocean within driving distance, and I could go snorkling at the local pond without getting arrested by the parks dept. And I was 90 minutes from Boston. While we banished the letter "R," we did not make war on our vowels. (Is this your hay-ett? No, it's my hat. Are your peerents coming? No, my parents are. It's petty, but I still find it grating.) On the other hand, New England was a harsh place to live in terms of climate, cost and just finding ones way around. People are superficially less nice there, but when they are nice, they mean it.

I live in generic Ohio.

28. I'd like to know where it was taken
Judging by the deck of the boat, it's an ocean-going (as opppsed to Great Lakes-going) vessel of some sort.

31. I think I can answer that for you.
I will have to check my emails, but a friend sent it to me when a hurricane was coming in. She had received it from someone on the ship.

I'll PM it to you when I find it.

I'm a bit of a ship buff in my spare time, mostly about stuff on the Great Lakes. Weird hobby I know, but hey it beats trainspotting. :)

29. You don't want the midwest to come to you.
It'll crash on your couch, eat you out house and home, drink endless six packs of beer, watch ESPN 24/7, run up your phone bill and never go away, ie the midwest is the slacker brother-in-law of regional America.
