8. Yes the final 5
The identities of the final 5 were confirmed and where they came from.
Where the other 8 skin-jobs came from.
The reason for the end of the First Cylon War.
And lots, lots more.
Can't wait for next week.

10. My two (possibly drug induced) theories going after tonight...
"Daniel" was Kara's father*

Admiral Adama is the dying leader*

11. So many possibilities (SPOILERS if my speculations are prescient)...
I think...
- Kara is the daughter of Saul and Ellen... given up for adoption (maybe) on Caprica per Cavil's scheme.
- The dying leader is a metaphor for the Battlestar Galactica itself.
- Kara was resurrected by a hub still orbiting "Earth" after her viper crashed.
- The "Earth" that was discovered was the Earth they were seeking, but it's not the "Earth" where humans evolved.
- Our "Earth" spawned humanity and pre-dated Kobol, and saw the first holocaust and Cylon exodus.

My theories re: the end-game (and the repeating cycle) involve the following milestones...
- The ability for Cylons to reproduce
- The creation of robot artificial intelligence (A.I.) such as the Centurions
- The Centurion (A.I.) rebellions
- The invention of resurrection technology
- The eventual holocaust and flight of resurrected Cylons to a new world.
- Humans are along for the ride... manipulated to provide genetic diversity or a template for survival.

My theories re: the survivors at the end of the day
(i.e., which characters are strategically important to advance the next cycle)?

- Hera... product of Helo (human) and Athena (new Cylon)... She is the new Eve.
- Six and her unborn son... She carries the son of a new Cylon and the creators... Her son is the new Adam.
- Baltar... He is the human protector of the next generation... The human who gets "it"
- This fulfills the denouement of the opera house visions.

Okay... That's all I've come up with for now. Thoughts?

SPECULATION and possible SPOILERS follows...

I don't think Kobol is the beginning of the repeating cycle. I think the BSG timeframe is far in the future. I believe the story being told implies that we humans (like you and me) create artificially intelligent life on our Earth (i.e., Cylons, cyborgs, whatever). We mistreat them and they rebel. There is a holocaust and the new life forms flee to a new planet (maybe Kobol or maybe someplace before Kobol). They artificial life forms evolve, learn to reproduce, create new intelligent life forms (Cylons) on Kobol who rebel, etc. Same thing happens again and again throughout history. The message of the show... Can the cycle be broken?

The fact that the Kobol Cylons learned how to procreate without resurrection technology (after reaching "Cylon Earth") leads me to speculate that everyone in this show is a "Cylon". Actual human beings are long lost in the repeating cycle.

In 2003, Ron Moore set out to do a realistic Sc-Fi show without aliens and magic. He's said in interviews that the story does not contradict human evolution on the planet Earth... unlike the 1979 series which implied humans came from the from the stars.

I think that the shows artifacts... phones with cords, suits with neckties, familiar names, planets named after astrological signs, and "All Along the Watchtower" are historical leftovers from our real-world societ... where everything started.

ON EDIT: Actual biological evolution is mentioned twice in Fridays episode. Tigh made a comment about blaming the first germ that decided to reproduce, and Cavil said Ellen wasn't human because she didn't crawl out of a swamp.

31. I could buy that..
That seems pretty logical. I definitely think that humans set the cosmic opera into motion, and what the "cycle" has been is human a/o cylon creating a new civilization, then leading to its own downfall, ad infinitum.

35. A Viper is less complicated than Kara to remake...
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 06:33 PM by targetpractice
Ellen introduced a theme on Friday that previous generations try to warn new generations not to make the same mistake. (Voices inside their heads). I think Kara was sent back in a newly built Viper as a warning by a party that we will learn about soon. In fact, the hybrids told Hera that she is the "harbinger of apocalypse". Perhaps this unknown party has set up shop on Ellen's colony that Cavil mentioned.

I think Kara is the offspring of Saul and Ellen on Caprica. That's why she's special. That's why Sam saw Kara glow. That's why she was able to resurrect. She's a direct descendent of two Final Five Cylon models.

Perhaps Cavil or someone else took Kara away from Saul and Ellen and placed with with a foster mother (Socrata Thrace) for protection ... She was too important to the next generation. Just like Roslin took Hera away from Helo and Athena.

14. Pure speculation on my part (but someone might think it's a SPOILER SO DON'T LOOK)
"Daniel" is Adama's son, the one who died before the show even started. "Daniel" is out there somewhere, how else to explain how Starbuck came back?

That, or "God" is Adama.....

I hope the shows start being 2 hours long now.....

16. That's my guess ...

"Daniel" being Adama's son who died is at least one of my guesses anyway.

Whatever the case, Starbuck is connected to it in some way. Recall her obsessive drawings that turned out to be representations of the Eye of Jupiter.

17. DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED EVEN THOUGH I'M JUST SPECULATING
Starbuck has always been a Cylon, created by Daniel (aka Zak) or "God" (Adama--sorry, can't get over the reference to Adam; "God" must be Adama cuz that would be a really good twist), & given to her mother by him (remember she never answered Starbuck's question as to who her father was). I still say there's some connection to her & Tigh, probably his daughter, otherwise who else would she have been modeled on? Argh! Now I have to wait another week. :banghead:

18. Speculations and Spoilers.......
Technically there IS a 13th Cylon, we just haven't seen him, yet. But I bet we will. 13th tribes, 13th Colonies, but only 12 Cylons? No, I don't think so.

Some interesting hypotheses over the BSG Forums, that Daniel is / was:

(1) Kara Thrace's father, OR

(2) Thrace is a "corrupted" female copy of Daniel. He was an artist. Thrace is an artist, so..... OR

(3) Daniel downloaded himself into the Basestar's system and is one "running" things without anyone being cognizant of the fact. Since the Final Five were unique and Cavil had boxed them, so to speak what "reactivated" (with music no less) the four in the Fleet? Answer, Daniel. He's the one who brought Starbuck and her ship back.

20. I was wondering about that
when I was reading the BSG wiki page & noticed one of the "8 known Cylon models" was missing. I can see any of your possibilities working, with the addition of Daniel putting himself into the BSG software (remember when Gaeta networked it all & it got hit by a Cylon virus?). And Starbuck as a gender-bender? Explains why the role has been played by both male & female actors. :)

22. Don't forget....
He is a literal mother-fucker. He had sex with Ellen back on New Caprica in full knowledge of who and what she was.

He had sex with his mother / creator, whom he hates / loves, whom he has already killed once, and was fully ready to kill again, but still wants her approval.

So....... A humanoid robot with really serious mommy issues keeps trying to exterminate humanity.

And HUMANS are supposed to be messed up? Riiiight........

26. thoughts on BSG (my guess at there view, not actually my views.)
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 07:12 AM by RandomThoughts
The ship represents society. Cracks are the faults in our society, built on things that can not be sustained, or on methods that are self consuming, greed, selfishness.)

Felix head nod, and John's 'no sleep' were cheap shots.

Cylon John represents Calvinism, note it was John Calvin that started it.
In contrast to the free-will position advocated by Charles Finney and other dissenters, Calvinism places strong emphasis, not only on the abiding goodness of the original creation, but also on the total ruin of human accomplishments and the frustration of the whole creation caused by sin, and it therefore views salvation as a new work of creation by God rather than an achievement of those who are saved from sin and death.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvinism

Calvinism also represents class warfare, since Calvinism are big on rich people being blessed with wealth, and blaming those with less as 'its there lot'

Daniel a main figure in old testament, and is the name of 7, (his fluid was not corrupt, but what model tells the tale on tv is up for debate. :) )

Some stories about biblical Daniel. He is a main figure in interpretation of dreams. He refuse to bow before another man, and honored the one true God of his religion. He was thrown in a lion pit was not bit. He is a big bible name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel

In BSG Daniel was name of kid that was told he had to work on refinery ship because of his planet of origin, even though he was not a farmer, he said he was architect, other sites have said this may be the 7.

Also the John reflects Sadism in self hatred, many people that inflict pain on others either economic, social, emotional, or physical, actually hate themselves, but since they can not see themselves, nor forgive themselves, they hurt others.

I couldn't believe what they were talking about in the setting in which it was being discussed

I was thinking-my God, this is some deep crap they're spouting

John was playing Satan to Ellen's God

he wants to reign in Hell rather than serve in Heaven

37. thats an interesting thought.
I noticed that also, I was thinking that they might have been layering over belief systems within that also. The idea of monotheism versus the old egypt many Gods. Using the term one true God.

Also Ellen was nurturing mother, love and mercy, while John was Rage Vengeance and self hatred.

Could also be new testament love and as you say service, verses old testament vengeance.

Lots of ways to look at it.

34. Holy frakkin' hell (spoilers)
I too agree that Daniel is most likely Kara's father, and that her resurrection is somehow an inherited ability of the hybrid human/Cylon children (so Hera will be able to resurrect herself too, if need be?). I think Adama agreeing to use the Cylon glue for Galactica is sort of a metaphor for all of this - that the only way to ensure survival is for humans and Cylons to combine, to become one race, one people.

I always knew Cavil was a psychopath, but I never realized the depths of his evil until Friday night. He knew everything all along :scared:

I also doubt Sam is really brain-dead, but I guess we will have to wait and see...

36. Maybe a minor detail but interesting to me.
Anyone watching the role reversal of Adama and Tigh with regard to binge drinking? It's been going on a while, but it really stood out in this episode when Six reminded Tigh he'd thrown out all his booze weeks ago because the smell made her sick, and he hadn't even noticed. Then Adama made a VERY major decision (use Cylon tech, save the ship) when he was drunk.
