1. That, and Comin Back to Me affect me so deeply, that sometimes I can't listen to them
Incredibly beautiful songs, just sometimes too achingly poignant to allow myself to hear and to feel.

2. I no what you mean. There have been times when I simply
couldn't listen to Today for the same reasons as you, I suspect. Really only a handful of songs like that that I can think of in my 51 years.

:hi:

11. WOW, thanks! Comin Back to Me - I could not remember the name of the song.
I was humming the melody about a month back, wanting to have DH download it from iTunes. He had no idea what it was, and neither did I. I just couldn't remember the words for some reason; in that case, the music was too haunting I guess. Now I can tell him the name. Thank goodness for DU music gurus. :-)

12. glad to be of assistance
I actually do have friends call up from time to time when they're stumped on some sort of rocknroll trivia...I'm somewhat ( but just somewhat) of an expert in the areas I know about , but there are also many genres and eras I don't know squat about. I know my 60's rock and soul pretty well, but from what I can tell, I'm not the only rocknroll junkie on DU ...and probably some who could put me to shame with their "useless and pointless knowledge" ( Dylan-Tombstone Blues).

13. I'm not bad re: 80s and Motown.
Especially alternative 80s. Not so good with the mega-rock bands from any era. I do like most music, though, so when I hear something I like I tend to remember it vividly. Except in this case (Comin Back to Me), and I think that's because I first heard it in the movie Indian Runner. The movie was so emotionally savage (and yes, I use that word on purpose) that it overshadowed my auditory memory. The minute I saw your post, though, a light bulb went off. Weird how that works, huh?

Thanks again. :-)

Any alt 80's stuff you recommend ? I know my stuff somewhat from that era/genre, but if that's a specialty area of yours, I'm guessing there's maybe some bands I've heard of (or not) but that I never checked out. Any recommendations are welcome. Also, if you like Motown and have never seen the movie Standing in the Shadows of Motown, I recommend it. Very bittersweet to say the least--- about the "Funk Brothers"---Motown's house band that played on everything that came out of the Motown hit machine.

Comin Back to Me.......I allowed myself to hear and feel, and am emotionally sapped. This is one of the songs that creates actual pain from nowhere....

Ten Years After does another....
50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain...

I have no idea why I'm doing this to myself...And I just noticed that it's tomorrow...

peace~

7. It always sounds busy and overproduced to me.
I'd love to hear a pared down version.

Hmmm. Maybe I should just do it myself.

17. Interesting how two people can hear totally different qualities in the same song
I find that part of what makes it so powerful and haunting is how spare and open it feels. Busy and overproduced are the last two words that would come to mind, but as I said, different people hear different things. BTW, I checked your music out on you tube. Not my style, but I enjoyed and appreciated it for what it was, and I could envision situations where I could sit back and let my mind float to it.
