DU Ladies, how would you respond to this situation, how would you want the Man with you to respond..
Edited on Sat Feb-14-09 10:13 PM by Pierre.Suave
I just talked to a friend and she told me a story that happened to her last night at some local club.

She was dancing with a guy when they both decided to stop dancing for a bit and get some fresh air, anyway, as they turn around and begin walking off the floor, someone grabs the guy and holds him there, while this other guy follows her off the dance floor. Apparently it all ended thanks to her actions, not to the guy that was with her.

I told her that if I were there and that happened to me and her, I would have knocked the fucker grabbing me out and went after her to make sure she was ok, using all force necessary to ensure her safety.

Then held them there until the cops arrived...

How about you.

edit: I forgot one relevant detail, the guy following her off the floor has a known crush on her, and is creepy to begin with... She is not interested in him at all.

16. As someone who used to go clubbing
all the time, my attitude is that I can't just rely on the guy I'm with to take care of me. I might not always be with a guy nor can the guy be there all the time. I'd have gone straight to the nearest bouncer and asked them to take care of it ... its their job. If my companion had done something that would have probably started a fight, he probably would have gotten kicked out meaning I would have to leave, too, or it would have left me more vulnerable.

True but bouncers wouldn't know/care. More likely to blame "ender" - both booted.

26. I generally agree with you
but in this case, the guy was forcibly restrained from accompanying his friend outside while another male followed her out without her knowledge. In that case, Id take my chances..

27. Not clear that the creep
actually followed her out. He followed her off the dance floor. Also, she knew the creep was a problem. I just recently had a semi-similar thing happen - two creepy guys and me there with a girlfriend. We'd met some people there and asked one of the guys to escort us to our car (otherwise would have asked the bouncer) and I was aware of where creep-boys were at all times. My guess is that she didn't even get off the dance floor without knowing (and if she did, sad to say, she needs to learn to pay attention).

Also, we don't know the details of how her escort was detained and what aspect of it she took care of (was it that she'd already acted by the time the guy was able to get free or did she get the guy free?) or what she did. How big were to various players? How drunk? Lots of variables.

Further - the advantage of going through channels is that too many repetitions of the same behavior might get the perps banned, at least for a while (this is why it pays for ladies to get to know their bouncers).

Finally - the question was "DU Ladies, how would you respond to this situation, how would you want the Man with you to respond." It is not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. You would behave differently. I responded how I would respond.

As for how I'd want the gentleman to behave? Try to get free, deal with the restraint however he wants to - preferably in a way that doesn't get him hurt or kicked out (that was an assault of him, not me), and ask me how I want the creep handled.

36. I'll vouch for this, having been a bouncer in a rowdy DC music venue/bar.
I got paid to take only one side...that of management. Management wants me to maintain order.

That's what I did...I can respect the desire to defend a friend but all "ending" a fight will do is insure that he's not the only one being put into the floor face-first or physically-removed from the building. Throw a punch and it's a night in the DC lockup, do it on Friday night and you can expect to be there all weekend and maybe most of Monday. Trust me when I say the cops don't care how badly I manhandle you...DC's law is fairly simple in regards to ABC and disorderly conduct in establishments with liquor licenses, we're right and if I call the police, you go to jail. It's pretty-much automatic. Your side doesn't matter, nobody cares, you just get arrested. End of story. I don't have to be to work until 7PM so I've got nothing better to do all afternoon and I got paid for my time if I had to testify in court...I always show-up.

On the other hand, as long as you're the one being assaulted and not assaulting, you've got nothing to worry about from me. I knew everything going on in that space and when I didn't, that's what the monitored security cameras and radios are for. We worked in teams of 6+ and there wasn't a square inch of that venue that didn't have eyes on it at least 8x a minute, we like to deal with problems before they become problems...so by the time asshole grabs you, I'm probably already busting through the crowd to drop him. Yell, hoot, holler, make a ruckus to get our attention...as long as you're not fighting, you're going to be fine. When I break it up...keep your hands at your side and explain calmly what the situation is...we don't want the kind of trouble that creepy guy causes either. I have no problem checking on her well-being. That's not the sort of crap I want going on and it's not the sort of rep that the management wants for the venue.

19. Luckily, nobody grabs me and holds me somewhere.
However, in this scenario, if they did I guess it would depend on the guy holding me. If I noticed that he was detaining me so that someone else could follow a woman outside, my forehead is going to splatter whatever nose he has all over his face. Then it's Terry O'Reilly time.

28. Oh, for the record
I'm a little over 5' 2" and once screamed down a 6'+ ska skinhead type for acting out on the dance floor much to the amazement of my 6"+ escort who (along with an army ranger buddy of mine) thought he was going to have to jump in to save me. Guy was not paying enough attention where his arms and legs were flying and almost hit me and a friend at which point I poked him and gave him a "talking to" (the look on his face after he turned with a snarl and had to look down ... relatively far down ... was priceless) after which he came about as close to scuffing his feet and saying "aw shucks, Ma'am" as anyone I've ever seen. I can be pretty tough when I need to. There is a good chance that I would have taken on the muscle doing the detaining myself. What I say I'd do and what would actually happen in the situation are not necessarily one and the same.

Once the young lady is outside, with the other guy in tow. Thats an issue. If the guy was simply looking to talk, why is the restraint by his buddies necessary?

43. I'll get serious for a moment and tell you my thoughts...
There have been plenty of times in my life where I have had to get physical. Some of those times worked to my advantage, and some did not.

Someone very wise once told me that no matter how tough you are, there is SOMEONE within a few hundred feet of you that is bigger, stronger, a better fighter, and with a harder head.

A person in your profession would understand the following much better than me...that it is always better to try reasoning when possible...to get out of the situation and make you and yours safe.

Unfortunately, reasoning does not work in some situations.

:hi:
