What causes coughing in dogs?

She doesn't have a fever, she's negative for heartworms (as of three weeks ago), and she's not around filth or mold.

She coughed a little this morning, and had about 5 GNARLY sustained coughing spells throughout the day. Other than the cough she seems fine.

It sounds deep and chesty. :(

4. Kennel cough?

My pup had kennel cough after staying overnight at the vets last year. Has she been boarded lately, or spent time at the vets? A round of antibiotics cleared him up but it sounded like he had whooping cough until it did. I hope she gets well very soon.

but she DID stay overnight at the vet on inauguration day. I don't know what the incubation period is, but it's possible. :shrug:

The coughing is to try to get the heart to beat correctly if it's going to fast or erratic. How old is she?

I thought about that, but firstly this came on all of a sudden, secondly it's really deep and chesty, and thirdly I wouldn't think she'd be chasing the other dogs around and coughing instead of barking. ;)

If you had never heard of allergies, would coughing, difficulty breathing, rash, stomachache, and general malaise mean anything to you, or would it be the most bizarre disease you had ever heard of? :shrug:

(And I used allergies as an example because said dog has a gnarly rash, farts, has ear problems, is sorta fat, loses her hair, and generally is a fussy little dog. Did I mention she's a cattle dog mix, with possible pit bull and boxer? :eyes: Yeah, you'd think she'd be bomb proof, but no, she's got a lot of odd health problems.)

One of which is.. my dog/cat doesn't breath right... what should I do.

It annoys me. Many will leave messages about it calling at 1am for 3 days before I can get a hold of 'em and say.. HEY, der.. take it to a vet.

21. i'll be serious... my dogs have the run of my farm. they eat all sorts of disgusting things...

when i am not watching. on occasion they will cough and cough... sometimes followed by that "yuuk, yuuk, yuuk" sound before they yack on my carpet.

it might just be something disagreeable that was digested. sometimes something as simple as grass. but that never lasts more that an evening.
