8. If you like Shostakovich's String Quartets try to find any recordings of them...

...done by the Beethoven Quartet of Moscow. Definitive, in my opinion.

12. I've got a CD of several of his quartets floating around somewhere.

Don't remember the name of the group, I just remember being ecstatic that I finally found a good sized collection that had the 8th in it. :)

5. Shostakovich, I love his symphonies.

Especially 5, 7, and 10.
In number 10, his movement depicting Stalin is one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard...short, brutal, and haunting. The long years of Stalin's brutal oppression distilled into four minutes of musical assault.
One of those things that stays with you forever.

I strongly second the love of the string quartets, plus the 4th symphony (less well known as it was removed under threat of Stalin) and the Leningrad symphony (I forget the number) not least for the story behind it.

That's not to say that I don't love Stravinsky too, particularly the Rite of Spring.
