God I Hate Valentine's Day: A Rant in Three Parts

One: I hate pseudo-corporate created holidays. The only purpose of this holiday is to make people spend money during an otherwise dead time economically. Why must every damn product be advertised as a "great gift for Valentine's Day"? Is a shit-ass ugly bear really that great? Is a t-shirt that says "Be Mine" that great? In two words: fuck no.


Two: Valentine's Day serves to alienate and depress single people. All those lovey dovey commercials only make a person realize: a) their terribly alone, b) "fuck, I have to go spend my hard earned beer money on a worthless teddy bear", c) the emotions felt for a past significant other are still lurking.


Three: Every time I think I'm ready to move on with my life, to put the past in the past, something crops up that rises the rancid cream of past love to the surface. I don't want to think about her. I don't want to hear from her. I don't want her to exist in my dreams anymore, but yet this goddamn holiday does a great job at ensuring that happen.


Fuck Valentine's Day and the stupid horse it rode in on.

I try to concentrate on my loved ones, and on my husband. But he's always in my heart, so there's no real difference which day it is...

2. I hear you, crimson, cuz I'm single too

I try to concentrate on the people in my life I love and who love me, like friends and family. Valentine's Day is just a Hallmark holiday and who cares?

and I don't spend money on it except a few bucks on DU hearts...and luckily (?) there's been no significant other for so long, that at least that doesn't enter into it, but it is perfectly engineered to make the lonely and miserable more acutely aware of their loneliness and misery. But its over, thank god or goddess , or flying spaghetti monster...
