Top Gear's American Road Trip 2 is on tonight.
BBCAmerica, 8pm EST.

Tonight, on Top Gear:

Jeremy, Richard and James travel to the U.S. to take three of the latest generation of muscle cars on an epic road trip from San Francisco to the heart of Utah. After the excitement of their last American road trip, this time they do their best to avoid letting a mob of angry locals pelt them with rocks.

Jeremy scampers around the Top Gear track in the feisty new Fiat 500 Abarth.

"Pop Idol" winner Will Young (think "American Idol" for Brits) is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.

BTW, the cars on the American Road Trip this time are not exactly clunkers like last time. The new Corvette ZR1, Dodge Challenger and the Cadillac CTS-V are featured. And yes, they take them to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

This one is not to miss.

1. San Francisco to Utah? That'll be a fun route.
Bay Area traffic, valley farm country, more traffic, driving up the Sierras, through the Nevada desert (which is fun, because everybody ignores the speed limit out there or they'd die of boredom) and then into Utah, which might be pretty depending on where they're going, or might just look like Nevada only with a stupider population and no gambling or real beer.

Oh, and said course would involve driving right by my house. Because California is awesome, and Florida is not. Just thought I'd mention that.

3. No, it's the other easiest part of the country
to stereotype and make fun of. Hence the show.

4. Not really.
You have San Francisco, which is easy to make look crazier than it is on TV, then a four hour stretch of nothing interesting, people-wise, then casinos (if you wanted to mock those, Vegas would be better) and then eight more hours of driving, and then Mormons. And they're not crazy in a visually interesting way. best case scenario you get some crazy truckers or rednecks out in the Nevada desert along the way, or stop at a brothel.

Trust me, I've driven every inch of the main route involved and there aren't any mobile chakra alignment centers or random hippies to mock, so the NorCal stretch would be pretty boring.

Not as good as when the rednecks down south were throwing rocks at them, but good all the same.

Spoiler alert for the purists:

I thoroughly enjoyed the drunk man and woman accosting James as he played the slots in Reno.

11. Criminy, my parents had a Fiat 500 for a while when I was a kid.
My dad took his 1966 Chevy Impala SS to Europe when sent by the USAF. Unfortunately, the windshield was damaged in transit, and getting a replacement was difficult and time-consuming to say the least. So, we needed a cheap car for a while. So, the folks bought a Fiat 500. It wasn't as nice as the one Jeremy is driving now though.

12. Hey Chrysler, Top Gear think your cars are shit because your cars are shit.
Generally speaking, of course.

Stop acting like self-important twits. Thank you. Oh, and don't waste my money on fucking trips to Vegas for management.

17. You know, if I had $175k to blow on cars, I would make GM happy.
I think I'd buy one of those Cadillacs and a ZR1.

18. From what I understand, the ZR1s are going for around $120-130 now
due to supply/demand. But, where else will you get THAT performance for that price. Bargain.

No idea what I'd do to transport dogs, but I'd love to have that ZR1.

19. It IS a bargain.
You could buy one of those instead of a Ferrari and have some money left over to buy a nice Range Rover Sport for the dogs. :)

and Rhode Island and still have pizza money.

22. I admit it: I love Cadzilla.
I love the idea of one of GM's "retiree marques" building something like this. Harkens back to the Grand National.

Would I buy one? I don't know. That level of performance for under $70? I'd probably rather a Z06. But, I'd buy it before I got an E63 or an M5. Not before an RS6, though, were it offered here at that price point.

24. Only downside to that car
is I think (and I'd have to actually look it up, rather than talk out my ass) the warranty is up in a year. I'd not want a machine like that without at least a couple years to fuck it up.

Beauty she is, though. Wow.

is when the REAL fun starts...

plus, while it is under factory warranty, you can purchase an extended warranty from Chevy all the way out to 100K miles.

Agreed, though. An extended warranty on that car, and she is PERFECT.

Even the right color. Damn.

Thanks to the US State Department

The recent episode with the Clarkson May and Hammond driving HGV's however is hopelessly funny (and stupid).

Illuminations Top gear car for sale

CAR lovers can buy a piece of Blackpool Illuminations and Top Gear history as Richard Hammond's winning switch-on car goes up for sale.

Last August, Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May raced from Basel in Switzerland to Blackpool on a single tank of fuel to have the honour of flicking the famous switch and lighting up the Golden Mile.
