The boy cat is apparently gifted.. or has retractable, opposable thumbs

So about 3 hours ago I gave into the fat girl cat's shrieking to be fed wet food. As is my routine, I feed them half of a wet can twice a day (along with constant dry food). I used to put the boy's 1/4 on the counter and the girl's on the floor (she will eat whatever is in front of her no matter the size; he will eat just want he wants and come back to nibble when he wants) because she can't even fantasize about jumping half that height (due to her neurological issues but her weight doesn't help). This worked well for a while but the boy cat decided he didn't want to eat up there anymore and began to place the food in his mouth and drop it onto the floor where he would eat it.

So tonight I'm cracking a new can open as the girl cat is walking on her hind legs and meowing (she doesn't meow ever, except for food) and the boy cat arrives from wherever he was hiding out and starts skulking around like he's going to hop up on the counter to start eating the food I prepared. Normally I'd clean up the the counter of any spills and put the remaining can in the fridge before putting the dish on the floor, but tonight I was trying to outwit the boy cat and put the food on the floor to distract him. Both cats went face to face eating the meal and I went back to my computer.

Some minutes later I hear the sound of can lid tearing off and then falling to the floor, followed by slopping noises. My cat ripped the half torn lid off and threw it on the floor. He had his face buried in the can chowing away on tomorrow morning's food and he refused to acknowledge me as I was barking from across the room to cut it out. When I finally reached him and separated him from the can he took a swipe at the can to get it back.

He's such a douche.

He's also the one that loves water, sinks and tubs... and can occasionally turn on one of them so he can soak himself.

I locked him up in the bedroom about an hour ago because he was really needy and refused to take no for an answer to lap cuddles and constant attention - I have to finish my homework and he insisted on walking all over my keyboard and being an all around douche.

I miss him but I'll live and so will he.

7. The cat we had when I was a kid got pretty tubby in her later years.

When she sat with her paws tucked in you couldn't see her feet at all because of all the extra pork that lopped over them, and she looked like a furry ottoman with a little head. We loved her, though.

If the cat wants wet food, give it to him, to all of them. It is by volume 75% water which keeps the kidneys flushed. Cats who eat only or mostly dry food simply do not drink sufficient water ...that would be three times in volume what they eat. Does not happen. And without fluid volume in their food they simply eat too much and the lack of fluids is probably not good for the kidneys.

2. she'll only eat the dry out of necessity. Sometimes when she begs and it's not time for wet food (or I'm out of wet) and I fill the bowl with dry she gives me a nasty look and storms off, refusing to eat the dry. She eventually caves and eats the dry every time after some pouting but I usually don't last that long - I cave and give her wet.

He'll jump blindly onto the counter with a bunch of fragile wine glasses in the way and he contorts his body to not knock one over.

He still knocks my martini over when it's a much shorter jump and he can see it. :eyes:
