I just finished filling out ****4**** count them *****4****** FAFSA forms
It took me 15 minutes to even start the first one as we negotiated the pin number.

It promised to send me to New York's TAP site.

It lied, but it did fill in the blanks for the FAFSA for the next kid.

I got that one filled out, and it promised to send me to the Tap site. It lied, but it sent me to the FAFSA for the third kid.

That FAFSA started questioning whether the income number which were transferred directly from the first FAFSA forms was correct. It then wanted to know why, if the kid earned some money, no taxes were owed. Hello? Did you see how little she was able to make in the last summer of the Bush Presidency!

Finished that FAFSA, waited to be sent to the TAP site. No dice.

Got sent to the final FAFSA form, and I had to again confirm the income numbers which were transferred directly from the first FAFSA

Of course, no direct link to TAP, so I went there myself.

Their page asked if I'd been notified to apply for TAP yet. The answer was no, so I clicked the no button and got sent to another page. That page told me to click the link to start my TAP. That link sent me right back to the first page! I thought Kafka was dead!

I loved having a large family, but at this point I am looking forward to never ever agian filling out a permission slip for a field trip. Another 3 years of FAFSA forms, then I'm free!

4. Fafsa is the standard Federal form that's supposed to tell colleges
how much your family should be able to afford to pay for college. The glaring omission: there is no entry for student loans in current repayment!

Tap is New York's Tuition Assistance program. It replaces the old Reagent's Scholarships.

3. I feel your pain
Helped my daughter with her FAFSA this weekend. My first time doing this. Oy! Roughly akin to doing the 1040 -- as if doing my taxes wasn't enough of a pain. Three kids more to put through college, and she's just a freshman this fall. Years and years of FAFSA in my future. Oh well. :-)
