So... I have to create a Marijuana Website...

Medicinal Marijuana is legal in MI and my aunt's husband got licensed... And who does he call up to build his site? ME!

Now, he's not going to distribute it, but he is going to be building grow rooms, selling products made from hemp, and is starting a compassion community for sick people who need it for... relief...

So, I am just wondering... what would you do with it?

He said he wants a "bad ass" site, but I'm not sure how to go about designing this thing, and neither is he. I don't know who to market this to.

Technically, this is for sick people, but you know how it works... People will game the system, (and back in the day I'd be one of those people) so who do I design this for?

Do I go with a professional clinical type thing, or do I go with... um... the "High Times" approach?

What would you want to see?

And further more... I figure he'll want some kind of forum and store on there, and while I recently picked up some html and flash books, my coding is... non-existent, so I would need a... "plug-in" store and forum of some sort... any ideas?

1. I would

make it more clinical than High Times.

I would discuss the purpose of the business...the benefits of MMJ, the types of strains and how this business affects them or they affect the business. What you sell.

Keep in mind that this site will be visited by the police on a regular basis so a forum is probably not the way to go. People still like their anonymity and even though forums are anonymous if there were subpoenas involved they would not be.

2. That's what I was thinking too.

Now... what about a plug-in storefront? Like I said, he's not selling pot; just hemp products (aprons, hats, paper....)

I really don't want to have to update his site every month, so I'm looking for something easy for him to use; so I can just put a link up that goes to his store so he can change merchandise and prices and all that by himself.

Any suggestions?

4. Depends on the products

What do yuo mean hemp products? Is he going to be making them himself? Buying from one of the major hemp companies?

I do know that lots of info about the products, why they are so muchbetter than cotton etc need to be included.

Try hempco, jungmaven, two jupiters for a place to start and to buy products..

6. Like I said...

clothing articles mostly, rope... whatever you can make hemp out of, he wants to sell it. So, I just need a good and easy third party site/program to let him put up a store front that he can maintain all by himself.

7. Call it cannibas instead.

Marijuana is a prejudical term. Stick with medical with some humor but tone down a High Times approach. Although some sound bytes from Cheech and Chong might be funny. Throw in some history of the weed too, from other cultures. Good luck.

8. Keep it clinical. Check for webhosts that offer eCommerce stores, and b-boards. Not that you

have to have everything on one host but I would think that might make things a bit easier? Also, it goes without saying to avoid any "free" places (including the stores and b-boards) that does advertising. A lot of people find that off-putting and distracting.

9. Bad-Ass is the wrong way to go

Make it a professional site, that looks like it wants to do business instead of showing off the latest flaming skull animations.

Especially since it's for sick and elderly, who will need to be able to increase the font size, and want simple black on white text.
