Years ago we had a sweet little tuxedo kitten that I named Zelda. She was such a sweet little kitty, and soon came to be known as "Mommy's Precious". The day came to take her in for shots and spaying, and we learned, much to our surprise, that Zelda was a boy. I couldn't believe it. We renamed this kitty Waffles, because Zelda was clearly no longer appropriate.
Waffles was still "Mommy's Precious" til the day he passed away a couple of years ago. My heart broke when that happened.
My youngest often heard the story of Waffles mistaken gender; and when he picked out a kitten of his own a few months ago, he decided to name her Zelda, because I had wanted that name for Waffles. Isn't that sweet? The people we got the kitten from told us she was female, and that sold me...I was tired of being the only woman in the house. Zelda instantly was dubbed royalty, and all those naughty little things kittens do were excused with, "She's the princess!"
Since the day we picked Zelda up, we've had numerous mishaps, illnesses, and occupational happenings that have prevented us from getting her to the vet for shots and such until this morning. Now I had just taken the word of Zelda's previous owners that she was a girl. I never had any reason to go rooting around in her private areas; and she's a medium-hair cat, so such things aren't really obvious anyway.
You guessed it. She's a boy. We're going to call him Zeldy now, since he's been accustomed to hearing Zelda for so long. Poor critter must be suffering a gender identity crisis now, though. He was a boy who was treated like a girl and is now not really either one.
What are the odds?
