Our Legend of Zelda
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 05:11 PM by GoddessOfGuinness

Years ago we had a sweet little tuxedo kitten that I named Zelda. She was such a sweet little kitty, and soon came to be known as "Mommy's Precious". The day came to take her in for shots and spaying, and we learned, much to our surprise, that Zelda was a boy. I couldn't believe it. We renamed this kitty Waffles, because Zelda was clearly no longer appropriate.

Waffles was still "Mommy's Precious" til the day he passed away a couple of years ago. My heart broke when that happened.

My youngest often heard the story of Waffles mistaken gender; and when he picked out a kitten of his own a few months ago, he decided to name her Zelda, because I had wanted that name for Waffles. Isn't that sweet? The people we got the kitten from told us she was female, and that sold me...I was tired of being the only woman in the house. Zelda instantly was dubbed royalty, and all those naughty little things kittens do were excused with, "She's the princess!"

Since the day we picked Zelda up, we've had numerous mishaps, illnesses, and occupational happenings that have prevented us from getting her to the vet for shots and such until this morning. Now I had just taken the word of Zelda's previous owners that she was a girl. I never had any reason to go rooting around in her private areas; and she's a medium-hair cat, so such things aren't really obvious anyway.

You guessed it. She's a boy. We're going to call him Zeldy now, since he's been accustomed to hearing Zelda for so long. Poor critter must be suffering a gender identity crisis now, though. He was a boy who was treated like a girl and is now not really either one.

What are the odds?

3. Isn't it though?
I was anxious to get him spayed because I thought he was starting to go into heat.

It was funny though, because he was acting aggressively toward our male who's been fixed. I figured he was just confused. This semi-feral cat that we brought inside in December started showing romantic interest in Zeldy, so I figured we'd better get things taken care of. I guess it wasn't so urgent after all.

4. Awww she's a cute kitty
Er, I mean he's a handsome boy :) I had taken in a feral tuxedo cat a few years back (real, honest to goodness female kitty) and she was a skittish but lovable cutie. Your pic of Zeldy reminded me of my little sweetheart, thanks for posting :)

...and named him Fitz to got with Zelda. Funny how things don't work out quite the way you plan. :)

I love tuxedos... Thanks for replying!

6. Hee... That's adorable for some reason.
Kittimus's surgery was basically a sex change operation. they took off the...erm...male parts and made the ...erm...potty place bigger, so this shouldn't happen again.
