Our winter storm warning kicks in in an hour, and Shamu is completely
out of cat food. I have to go get more. He eats Purina ONE healthy weight, or weight management or, well, fat cat food. I have to get it at Kroger or the IGA, both of which will be full of crazies in a panic because *gasp* it might snow!! Right. Like they have absolutely no food in their houses and they'll all starve to death before the snow melts tomorrow night.

I'm dreading this, but he's pretty insistent about eating. So...pray for me!!

Do people get all nuts about snow storms where you are? It honestly wasn't this bad in North Central Iowa, even though the weather could get much worse.

People. :eyes:

1. Oh yeah!
People have to have their bread, milk and toilet paper even if they are only calling for a few inches...

7. Be careful
:)

Don't let the bad weather sneak up on you. And don't let the crazy people get to you either.

I made the mistake of trying to go out this evening with friends. The weather here is horrible. It is bitter cold and the wind in incredibly strong. I got half way there and I was in so much stabbing pain I had to turn around and come home. :(

Now I'm on an extra 60 mg of morphine, a double dose of muscle relaxers, and I'm amazed I'm still conscious.

8. Aww, Thom. I'm always so sorry to hear that you're in such pain.
I got there, got the Shamu food and got home with only a moderate irritation. Yeah, the crazies were out, but I knew what I was there for. So, right to the cat food aisle and out again.

Sorry you've had a bad evening, though. I feel so bad for you.

10. I worked in retail food for many a year.
People acted like idiots when there was a major storm bearing down; they would buy the stupidest things.

They would buy six gallons of milk and ten loaves of bread, like they couldn't get out again in two days.

The worst was the morning after a big snow. They would be waiting in the parking lot for the store to open, and then complain that there wasn't any perishable food on the shelves.

Duh. That stuff gets delivered every day, and if the trucks can't get out, we couldn't get product.

When there is a major snowstorm crossing the Great Plains, it disrupts food deliveries for two, three days to distribution centers, but most customers just refused to believe it. It was easier to pitch a fit about it, to someone that had no control over the fact that we didn't have any cucumbers that day.

Retail is where I learned that scared people are just like sheep.

11. In Chapel Hill, NC the milk and bread disappear from store shelves when snow is predicted.
Usually by 10 a.m. the snow melts.
