5. is it a western then, or just a clever title for something entirely unrelated?
I love me a good western.

6. sort of
it's more of a period drama than a regular western.

7. good enough for me
People have different ideas of what westerns are. I'm not crazy about the John Wayne type, but love some of the more bizarre ones.

13. I know it was criticized for being too long and too slow, but I thought it was incredible.
I watched it one afternoon, and thought it a fascinating, lyrical, haunting film. Not a weak point anywhere.

it wasn't too long or too slow imo. it was absolutely perfect. and if you were to take any actors out of their roles it just wouldn't be the same. the cast was amazing as was the direction and cinematography... and the music was wonderful

17. Hey Ava--I know the guy who wrote the book the movie was based on!
He was a teacher of mine at a writers' conference. After that, I corresponded with him for awhile. And he was involved when it came to the making of the film. I believe this is part of why the movie is so good! :hi:

The movie is fantastic, and as I still don't own it, I'm going to buy it this weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

Very poetic and lyrical. The acting, writing, editing and direction all come together perfectly. I think Pitt was the weak link in this though, but he's still solid. The director Andrew Dominik is great. He directed the film: "Chopper" that made Eric Bana a star, if you get a chance watch that film, it's awesome. Brad Pitt said he wanted to work with Bana and the director after watching that, so that's why he did this film and also "Troy" a few years ago, I think he might have requested Bana to get the part of Hector.

But this is definitely a showcase for Casey Affleck's talents, he's amazing. I always suspected he was this good, it was good to see him get the role to prove it.
