Instead of eating lunch, we would go out for a run. Our offices were located in an old nurse's dorm, with each office having a bathroom and a shower.

It was cold, we went for our run at lunch...when we got back the thing was approaching frostbite.

Had to dip it in a glass of warm water for an hour.

Seriously unpleasant.

the running capital of the world! I had a job at a greenhouse and I would run to it! The foreman wore fatigues and carried a walkie talkie his main job I swear was looking out for miscreants to fire!...I used to deliberately stay in bed until the last possible moment and then up, a quick cleansing, and out the door running! Down Villard Street,up Franklin Boulevard, down the footpath over the Willamette River footbridge, through the woods, past Autzen Stadium, past the beaver swamp, across Centennial Boulevard and past the Peace-NORML headquarters to where I worked before the whistle blew and I would punch in...all for a $4.75 an hour job that paid the rent with my three roommmates...I was lucky, my official title was "orchid horticulturalist"...I was like an Adonis then, in shape with long hair and even more handsome than I am now but totally a doofus (not to mention a virgin) then...I was 21.
