How does the cat decide he's done sitting on the window sill?

Seriously. Does anyone have any insights into the feline decision-making process? 'cause it fascinates me endlessly.

Quark was on the window sill in my office looking at the falling snow for about 10 minutes, then he decided to leave. I don't think he's doing anything else. The sill is wide enough to nap on. He's just had breakfast and done his other business. So why leave?

4. I don't know how they decide to do what they're going to do,

but it's obvious that their actions are deliberate and purposeful. One of mine just suddenly trilled and ran up the stairs for no reason that was apparent to me, but he clearly had a reason that mattered to him. I think he wanted another cat to chase him (and one did), but I don't know why. They occupy a different universe that only occasionally intersects mine, and the rules are different there.

I don't know how he gets up there and he is a big boy and sounds like fucking Reindeer.

This is a new thing and the first few times involved fairly elaborate rescues.

This morning however I am letting him chill and seeing if he has a plan.

Cats have domains they tend to. It was time to see what else was happening in his kingdom. Or maybe it was just cold on the sill, who knows? but they are indoor cats, so the pictures would all be of my messy house from angles I probably don't want to see.

8. A cat just sauntered into the living room from the kitchen,

where he was looking out a window, said "Hrrrmmm" to the cat who was sitting on the living room floor not doing much of anything, then turned around and went back into the kitchen, where he "buried" his food. The second cat followed him for a minute, then waddled back here and scratched a little on his scratching post. I can hear the first cat eating now. The third cat is sitting on top of the big cat tree, just watching. I have no idea why they do anything.

Then the other cat when "mrrrrr?" from out in the hallway and she jumped off and left. I figured that was going to turn into the chase game but I hear neither of them running around. I have no idea what that was about....

10. What I don't get about mine

Why is it necessary to annoint every bag and box that comes into this house by sitting in them for several minutes? Seriously, I do not get the whole "box sitting" thing that cats do. It seems completely pointless to me, and yet it's probably the #1 activity that they seem absolutely obsessive about completing during the course of their lives. Eating, pooping, and sitting in new boxes - that's what they care about the most. I mean, I might understand if they stayed in the boxes and slept in them or something. But they don't. They just get all excited and go sit in them and look around for 3 minutes and then go do something else. WTF???
Is there some rule in the cat universe that says no box can fulfill its purpose in the universe unless it has been graced by the bottom of a cat for at least a minute or two??? :crazy:

I've had one or more cats for decades. They figure me out to their complete satisfaction in short order. I still have the same questions about them that I had 40 years ago.

I'd never seen a 10 pound cat stuff herself (comfortably, apparently) in an Amazon box not a whole lot bigger than a box of kleenex. Freaky. :D

Then she gets down and lays on the carpet for a while to cool off. Once she's sufficiently cooled, she jumps back up in the window to warm the other side. :crazy:
