Poll question: How many computers do you have in your home?
By this I mean ones in some form of active use. I've got a freakin' museum in the basement so I don't count those. It also means laptops/desktop/server machines, not iPhones, etc. My count is 10. (The museum has about 15 and the parts graveyard is, well, I lost count.)

2. Two, but we only use one on a regular basis.
The one we use regularly is our HP laptop. The other is an older desktop.

4. Two, going on three.
We have a 77 yr old (dad), a 47 yr old (me), and a 40 yr old (bro). And we've just been joined by a 13 yr old (niece). Dad doesn't use computers, but the kid's gonna need her own machine pretty darn soon.

6. 9 currently
but I have enough parts to assemble 3 more. 5 are constantly running. My laptop is usually just sitting there unless I take out on a service call. My Digital Audio Recorder is used when I have a recording gig for a band. Then there's the one with Windows 7 Beta that I play with occasionally. They range in speed from a 1.73 GHz Celery in my laptop to a 3 GHz Phenom in my main system. Most are 2.5-3.0 GHz Athlon X2's.

7. Five! For two and a half people!
Is that shameful? Or just indicative of the fact that Mr. MG is a computer geek?

1) Mr. MG's desktop
2) Mr. MG's work laptop
3) My old iBoob (still use it occasionally because it has PhotoShop, Quark, and Dreamweaver)
4) My iBook
5) Mr. MG's old desktop for MG Jr. to play learning games on it (however, he prefers driving games on the XBox 360)

8. 7 (I think)
All four family members have their own desktop. I still have an older desktop I keep around because I haven't taken all the files off of it and it still has some programs not on the others. I have two laptops and my wife keeps bugging me to get her another one.

I hate computers, though. If it were up to me I would just have one in the house.

26. three currently but when my husband comes in from a field trip there are 4
because he brings home his laptop.

He has one upstairs in his project room. I have one on my desk and this one is in our family office/book room/computer room ...when we only had one in the house, this room was where it was located.

This room always has the fastest computer because of games.

Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 04:58 PM by davsand
I thought that was just kevsand and our household was the only one that had all the "Frankenputers."

My family room is one half computer workshop and one half usable space. I have to admit, however, that we sure do save by not having to pay anyone to fix problems, and we do benefit by helping the neighbors when their boxes break down. Fixing computers can be very much a "barter" type skill.

31. Hmm. Timex Sinclair, VIC-20, Apple II+, C=64, Amiga 500 & 2000,
Commodore +4, two old ThinkPads (including the original 750 B&W), and at least 15 386 or newer boxes in various states of function and scavenging. Oh, then there are the printers like the late 70's NEC SpinWriter which weighs about 80 lbs, several 9 and 24 pin dot matrix types, and the original HP Office Jet LX. Did I mention monitors?

37. But do YOU have the really big floppies? (not to get TOO personal!)
The ones that look like an LP?

My garage is a treasure trove. It won't hold a car, but I swear to gawd the Smithsonian could do a display on the stuff in that garage. Running joke in our family is: Where is the Ark of the Covenant? In your Father's GARAGE. THAT is where it has been stored all these years!

32. 3 that work plus one for backup
There is one that my son uses, one that my daughter uses, one my husband and I use, and one that we keep on hand in case of a computer crash. We also have an extra monitor, a spare CD drive, a few hard drives, a hard drive formatter, a router, extra flash drives, and extra card readers. My husband builds our computers from barebones kits so we always have spare computer parts around. He has also fixed family members computers too.

34. 5 here...
My Vista desktop, my XP desktop for ProTools, my wife's XP box, a Vista laptop, and my Windows Home Server box I built originally for the beta version (I was a WHS beta tester), it's now running the full version. I *love* WHS, it's one of the best and handiest products Microsoft ever came up with.

I'd really love to get his & hers 24" iMacs, but we're poor. :(
