Why is Slumdog Millionaire rated R?
I saw it again and still can't figure it out. It's not even very violent, most of the violence happens off-screen. There have been some WAY more violent PG-13 movies out lately (Dark Knight, Taken, Bourne, even The Lord of the Rings.)

MPAA ratings are dumb.

1. I guess the violence in those movies is seen as cartoonish,

even though it is filmed so graphically and realistically, whereas the implied violence against children, and themes like child prostitution in Slumdog Millionaire are more confronting, even though you don't see it.

5. There actually isn't much on-screen graphic violence
It's just so dark you don't realize that, but watch it again. Just about every gunshot killing for example happens off-screen. Note Two-Face's killings.

4. Because the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" show, in any country, is highly offensive.

6. Wasn't a child blinded in the movie? Or some other torture to make
a child a better beggar? That would do it for the ratings board.

10. that certainly....
did it for me. Also the torture scenes,
the people on fire, the various killings.
Way too much violence for my sensitivities.

11. Yep and don't forget the rape scene.
Some gritty stuff in that movie.

7. It probably would have been boring as hell if it were PG 13.
I swear PG 13 has ruined movies.

8. Well, the brother does shoot that gangster guy in the chest
And then at the end he gets riddled with bullets in the bath tub.

12. A friend of mine had to leave the movie because of how graphic the violence was
And she left _before_ they blinded that kid. Personally, I was disappointed. When I go to see an R rated movie, dammit, I go to see titties.
