Man , never search about health problems on the Googles , you end up scaring yourself
I went on a roller coaster ride yesterday which was kind of jerky at the end , ended up with a sore neck and upper back , which is much better today .

So anyway , for the heck of it , I enter "roller coaster" and "back injury" in Google , only to find hundreds of pages about the possibility of being permanently disabled by those rides....... and top it off , full blown symptoms might not appear right away.

I bit if I google "sneezing" and "death" , I will find some hits about the possibility of dying from a sneeze.

Scared me out of future coaster rides for sure.

2. I did that very thing last night
and learned that the low grade nausea, shakes, occasional dizziness, lack of appetite and stomach pain I have had for the last week actually have a diagnosis - low blood sugar and possibly a stomach inflammation. Which was a relief. Tomorrow it is time to go to the doctor.

3. HA! I can relate.
I'm in a masters program right now for counseling psychology and I'm taking a psychopathology class.
The other day I was reading up on all these various psychological disorders, thinking, "I can relate to that!"..."I can relate to that one, too!" Too funny.

9. Oh jeez
Psych classes are kinda like Psychic readings. You can read yourself into any damn one of the disorders, if you have a mind too.

That was one of the fun parts of school. Coming back from class and diagnosing all my roommates. The Crazier the better.

6. I've heard Med School does that to people too.
They are learning about these different diseases and suddenly everybody in the class thinks they have the symptoms...

I have had the same Google experience you describe. I end up scared sh*tless thinking it is WAY more terrible than it actually is. The only exception I make to that, however, is reading online patient reviews on prescription meds. I swear you will learn a LOT more about what any given med will do than anything you will ever get from patient inserts or your doc.

If anything, I have had the experience of finding a commonly reported side effect in the online forums, and having a Doc tell me she's never heard of that. I was hallucinating on Ambien. Now, we all know it is possible, but at that point in time my doc claimed she'd never heard about it. (I see a diferent doc now, btw.)

YMMV.

7. I've done that too. I was convinced I had MS.
I had all sorts of weird symptoms after having my second baby ... We never did figure it out, and it all cleared up.

I was terrified for awhile, though.

8. My mom was in nursing school in the late '40s
and she said they all managed to scare themselves half to death just reading their textbooks. Any time somebody got a stiff neck they thought they had polio. You don't need the Internet to scare yourself into fits of hypochondria, apparently.

12. I did it, and actually had a happy ending
I was researching treatment-resistant depression that was recurring. Long story short, it turns out my original diagnosis of depression was wrong, and it turned out I actually have bipolar disorder. Both diseases, while similar, respond differently to treatment.

Since I've been treated for bipolar disorder, I've actually done a lot better. Had I done this reasearch a decade earlier, I may have saved myself a lot of grief.

Do your research. Stay informed. But don't use it as your sole source of info.
