Good lord Hugh Jackman and co just put a stake through the heart of musical theater.

I expect the Emergency rooms to be overwhelmed tonight with the casualties of that last dance number.

2. About 30 seconds was enough to convince me.
As far as I'm concerned, there hasn't been a good Oscar show since the guy streaked behind David Niven.

8. Thanks! Never seen a bunch of malcontents like I've seen
on EW (I'm looking at you Ken "I hate Family Guy because Seth doesn't kowtow to me" Tucker)

Now here on DU?!

Folks, get a grip. This was the best Oscars telecast in ages.

Get a heart-- Did you *see* Ann Hathaway's reaction to Shirley McClain's introduction of her nomination??

This method worked. Hope they can pull it off in the future.

11. I agree with you.
It was entertaining and funny.
I thought it was one of the best openings ever.
But what do I know.

13. I ws referring to the second musical number with Beyonce and some
unknowns apparently from the Disney factory.

It looked like the kind of thing Stallone would have produced in the mid-eighties.

Stage musicals 2002–2006

In 2002, Jackman sang the role of Billy Bigelow in the musical Carousel in a special concert performance at Carnegie Hall.

In 2004, Jackman won the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, for his 2002–2004 Broadway portrayal of Australian songwriter and performer Peter Allen, in the hit musical, The Boy from Oz, which he also performed in Australia in 2006.

In addition, Jackman hosted the Tony Awards in 2003, 2004, and 2005, garnering very positive reviews. His hosting of the 2004 Tony Awards earned him an Emmy Award win for Outstanding Individual Performer in a Variety, Musical or Comedy program in 2005.

That's kind of cannibalistic, but interesting.

But I didn't really see the need for the other musical numbers during the course of the night.
