The Academy, in what they said was a "cost-cutting" measure, told the three nominees for Best Song that they'd perform only pieces of their songs in some sort of medley. Gabriel told them what they could do with that idea and sat the Oscars out.
I do not blame him one bit.

Music is art, not to be cut into little fun sized bites.
Hell, I hate radio edits.
Maybe that's why The Wrestler wasn't nominated, because there is no way you can shorten that song.

2. I hated that Baz Luhrmann-produced medley. |
|
With beyonce and Hugh jackman.
It was horrible. Short attention span theater wins.
Baz Luhrmann chopped up all the songs in Moulin Rouge, too.
I am not surprised.

3. He was in the audience--they've already shown him a couple of times. |

He'd have accepted that Oscar in a heartbeat if he'd been the winner.

4. I should rephrase myself... |
|
Gabriel refused to perform on stage unless he and the other nominees could perform their complete songs. I'm sure he'd have been happy to receive the Oscar.

5. Gabriel was correct... and Hugh Jackman has blood on his hands this evening |
|
The blood of an American art form called musical theater.

10. Useless, overwrought drama called. Didn't leave a message. |

6. Cost cutting measures are for the little people... |
|
Peter Gabriel has been an accomplished artist since, well, the time of Genesis!

8. The Oscars as a whole have been a mess this year |
|
A beautiful mess, but a mess nonetheless.
And yeah, I think a few heads need to roll at AMPAS on Monday morning.
