I liked the film, ok, but it is not this damned good. Gabriel and WallE were robbed.

5. I thought Frost/Nixon should have gotten editing.
Slumdog must just be the flavor of the day.

4. Wall E and Milk were robbed.
Two that I saw.

Hancock should have been nominated in Action.
Oh, wait, sorry....Hancock has a PLOT about PEOPLE, besides the crashing cars, and such.

So it's not mindless enough.

6. Best Picture hasn't been announced yet
So Milk still has its shot. I guess.

Who am I kidding? If they fucked Brokeback Mountain over in 2005, there is no way they are going to give an upset to a movie with themes of homosexuality.

Penn, van Sant, and the film itself are still on the table
But no, I think it's apparent Slumdog Millionaire has it.

I agree with you about Wall-E. I'm gonna watch that later just to flip off the Academy.

13. They never spread the Oscars around though
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 11:17 PM by Lavender Brown
I wish some other movies got recognition, but there's usually one that dominates. Much worse films than Slumdog Millionaire have won all the Oscars... like Titanic.

16. I'm not saying I didn't like the film
but sound, editing, music?

You're right about ones that seem to dominate. They can't all be "The Departed".

14. Slumdog is Hollywood fluff
It was way, way overrated.

A cute movie but nothing of substance from a movie that had an opportunity to be just that.

19. Really too bad.
A good movie that was just terribly overhyped.

Kind of ruined the Awards. Again.

Reminds me of Titanic.

31. For best song??
Peter Gabriel was nominated for his song in WallE against two songs from Slumdog. Therefore, I compared his nomination to theirs in that category.

And score? Button's score was amazing, as were Milk's and WallE's. Slumdog's was pretty much as most Bollywood films.

33. I have paid cash for soundtracks to Bollywood films
and I found Slumdog's soundtrack to be jarring and inappropriate in several places. It took the film down several notches.

For reference, my work is in sound design and music/music technology. Music is the second most important thing to me.

I'm likely to purchase the WALL•E soundtrack, however.

28. Nothing can top the Sean Penn win. How sad when the Actor award
is more exciting and moving than the supposedly "big" award of Best Picture. Oh well. The Academy is very good at making mistakes. At least they didn't screw it up with Penn.

37. Bad form?
Really?

I said I enjoyed the film, but didn't think it deserved to win over any of the nominated films, and I can think of many other that weren't nominated that deserved a nod over it.

It was an enjoyable film, well worth watching, not worth the majority of the statues it got.

Please with the bad form stuff. So sorry you disapprove that I comment that many excellent films were swept away in hype.

Love doesn't win over hype, I suppose, or a film like "Milk" would've won.
