I dunno...I do think the "Slumdog" worship messed up the Awards pretty bad.

Think of all of the great movies and performances that hardly got any kind of recognition because everything got pushed out of the way by a decent but not great, at all, movie.

Did you see Frost/Nixon? Milk? The Wrestler?

So many great things about those and other movies- things, honestly, that I can't say for Slumdog in the least. It's a movie with its good points, but mostly nothing I would call Oscar-worthy. I wouldn't have given it a single award.

Just really disappointed.

1. The Reader was amazing as well.
I found Slumdog to be very entertaining, but, as you can probably see from my thread, not oscar worthy.

3. Yeah- that was pretty disappointing too.

Although if I remember correctly there wasn't all that much that was good that was going up against it.

I think that's really my point- when you've got a lot of excellent movies in a year, you really shouldn't be seeing things like this happening.

which was just stunning.

5. I thought "Contact" was far superior to "Titanic" in most of the disciplines,
and had a better story to boot. But "Contact" was released in July and Titanic at the end of the year, during "Oscar season."

8. Titanic beat "Contact"?
Well, that's all fucked-up.

9. "Contact" only received one Oscar nomination, for sound.

Like the pine trees linin the windin road
Ive got a name, Ive got a name
Like the singin bird and the croakin toad
Ive got a name, Ive got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But Im livin the dream that he kept hid
Movin me down the highway
Rollin me down the highway
Movin ahead so life wont pass me by

Like the north wind whistlin down the sky
Ive got a song, Ive got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the babys cry
Ive got a song, Ive got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, Ill go there proud
Movin me down the highway
Rollin me down the highway
Movin ahead so life wont pass me by

And Im gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and Ill always be
Ive got a dream, Ive got a dream
They can change their minds but they cant change me
Ive got a dream, Ive got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you want me to
If youre going my way, Ill go with you
Movin me down the highway
Rollin me down the highway
Movin ahead so life wont pass me by
