Did you buy a high school class ring?

Do you still have it? Did you sell it? How much did you get for it? They are useless after high school. At least I didn't pay much for mine? How much could I get for silver class ring?

3. My dad insisted that I NOT get a gold one, if he was going to pay/help pay

for my trip to France with my French Club that year. So, I got a silver one with as few features as possible--no engraved name, cheap stone, stuff like that. At the time, I was mortified, but I got to go to France. Looking back, any money spent on the ring was wasted. I don't even know what happened to it.

In the middle of my junior year of high school I moved to a new state/school and my ring was no longer correct. I kept it just for the attachment I had for my old school, and never did anything with it. When my husband said that he was going to make our wedding rings I took all the jewelry I didn't want or wear and gave it to him to melt down. So now, I get to wear all of my old jewelry, but it means so much more because it was made by my husband into our wedding rings. We even used diamonds from a tennis bracelet for the accent stones.

it has a gem (I think garnet, it's red) plus a little gladiator over it...If I offered it to the gold dealers I hear constantly on the radio how much would they give me, do you think? My grandmother wore hers for over 50 years, but she went to school in the Texas Panhandle during the Depression with people who were her friends and cousins.
Her experience was different than mine. She loved those people and wanted to remember that time.
It was a big deal for her to be able to have a ring.

Me? I don't even keep in touch with ANYONE from that high school, except for one friend that lives in California now...and even then we only email rarely.

17. Yes. IIRC, it was made out of some sort of stainless-type metal.

Very plain, just the box-stock standard h.s. ring - I didn't 'personalize' the sides and got the standard fake stone specified for the h.s I attended. I worked and paid for it myself, as my parents refused to buy me a ring that they said I would wear for a couple years at most. They were right.

I think I paid about $50 for it in 1987, which was cheap compared to some of the customized diamond-encrusted monstrosities the ring company was hawking.

I still have it, but it's not worth much.

High school wasn't all that great. I was part of a small group of 'friends' who stuck together for survival in the teenage jungle. After graduation we quickly lost contact, except for one person with whom I maintain occasional correspondence.

Graduated in '73. My Dh had one as well. We sold them when things got difficult financially way back, 1980 or so. Shortly after we did that, I worked a short term job taking in gold and silver for meltdown. Back then you didn't really get very much money, nothing like what it's really worth or what it would cost to replace the ring.

If you have a local shop that buys, they should be able to weigh your ring for you and give you an estimate minus any stone. We offered estimates for many customers. IIRC, the weight is in pennyweight and troy ounces. Also pricing depends on the purity of the gold or silver because there are extra metals mixed in to harden the material. The more pure the softer the piece. For silver, I remember we couldn't take in anything less than .925 and all items, both gold and silver had to be stamped. Even then we had to test the material which could leave a mark on the piece from rubbing the item on a stone. Some testers would place the acid right on silver items which would leave a black mark. I saw many a silver tea set/flatware where someone had tested directly on the item.

it got stolen about 15 years ago. I never wore it. It was clipped to my ditty bag that I used in the film industry. that bag was stolen, the ring along with it.

I bought mine back in '82. I saved from my part time job as a dishwasher. I was sad at the time it was stolen. I get very attached to certain little "talisman" in my life. That was one of them. but at the same time, I also looked upon it as the end of an era. I was leaving Hollywood after being totally burned out in the machine.

Lost it years ago and wasn't that upset because I never wore it past high school anyway. It was really a waste of money, but goddam I just HAD to have one back then. Heh. Later I bought a grad school ring, but only because I helped create the new design (without a stone or enamel, just tooled metal). I still have that. Love it, but don't wear it much. Actually, don't wear much jewelry at all anymore.

Cost $180 in 1985 dollars. I wore it in high school, but not after that. I gave it to a college sweetheart to wear my sophomore year of college, and she wore it for three years. She probably still has it, as far as I know.
