Although when i was a kid i thought over 40 was ancient.

I recently realized my grandmother was 46 when I was born. Same age as I am now.

9. A vote againswt youth! I was pretty unhappy and depressed a lot of the time

in my childhood and youth, and I am neither one now in my oldth.

I'm glad for all who had a happy childhood, and still a litle envious.

10. I was less fearful when I was younger.

I had a pretty easy childhood/adolescence, in most respects (although high school beat me down psychologically with all the crap and the snotty kids,etc.), and I even had a horse. Financially, that time was much better for me. College and grad school were not problems to pay for and I traveled a lot in my early 20s, etc. As time has gone on the reality of what it costs just to live are hitting me harder and harder. Mortgage, insurance, house repairs, car upkeep, the cost of raising children, etc. etc. I often wake up at night in an anxious sweat, wondering how my old age will be and wondering where the money will come from to send the kids to college, etc.

I was bulletproof and omnipotent.
I was a dashing young fighter pilot.
Drinking while driving my MGB (British sports cars were very cool back then when your ride was VERY important) was a 'hang it over the edge' pastime when I wasn't helling around in my plane and hanging it all out there.
Did I mention I was bulletproof?
Absolutely fearless?
And stupid.

Happily I eventually got a little smarter and that's why I'm still here 40 years later.

I don't mention the women because I really hate a braggart.

I was a teen in the early eighties and had a blast!

Although I was a bit of a dork my freshman year and was constantly picked on, by the time I was a senior, mt defense mechanism (humor... and the coolest guy in school who wanted me to be part of the "in-crowd" because of it) allowed me a big, fat, giant group of friends in high school from almost every social spectrum, I dated the girls I wanted to date, my parents gave me boundaries but few hassles, and I still somehow managed to maintain my naivete and my innocent outlook on life.

All in all a glorious time with few responsibilities, lots of feathered hair and my very own Members Only jacket.
