What's up with the return of the 3D movie craze?

Are we actually running out of ideas that much that we have to revert to gimmicks like 3D movies to avoid thinking of some novel ideas plotwise?

They've gone through most of the 60's and 70's cartoons - sitcoms are all they have left. 3D gives me a headache anyway.

4. Coraline's the only one I've ever seen...

...and that movie didn't lack for plot. I don't doubt, though, that 3-D is also being used as a crutch (as were Sensurround before it, and color, and sound, and just movin' pitchers themselves).

7. I like 3D movies.

I can't wait until they perfect the technology so it seems you are in the movie and can interact with the props, scenery, and actors. I'm sure down the road, they'll do that. For now, we have 3D and what's not to love about things coming out of the screen at you?
