10. One of the mods accidentally moved a Mod Forum thread

into the Lounge, thus displaying mod discussions about deleting/moving a thread for all to see.

And of course, those of us who saw it posted on it. How often do we get the chance to post in a Mod thread?

I thought mods didn't have access to our email accounts or anything. My email is my full first name, I don't like that at all. I don't want mods finding that out. It's not a common name.

And, even worse to have it PUBLICLY posted on DU, where anyone could have found out my full name, had that been one of my threads.

And yes, the mods have, and always had, access to that information. It's to help identify sock puppets and trolls.

I and others have been told that only admins have access to that sort of info, due to the Padraig/CubanLiberal thing.

21. I think I was a mod before the Padraig thing.

We never had access to IP addresses, but I did think that we could see e-mail addresses. It's been at least 4 years, though - a lot could have changed.

Even after 4 years, however, I still automatically get my back up whenever anyone criticizes the mods. It's a thankless job.

the mods have to sign a legally binding mod confidentially document. If it was found that a mod was abusing their power, he would get booted, and could face legal trouble. Just so you know, however, it is always wise to use a more anonymous email when registering on a public forum. Even with a hidden profile, it is still possible for a regular user to get access to your email account. Hard to do, but possible.
