Today, via a series of emails, I discover the following:

1. He loved the State of the Union address and likes Obama. I almost fainted. Not because Obama's black -- my Dad isn't a racist -- but because Obama is A DEM!!!!!!

2. He voted for Hillary in the NC Primaries, and Obama in the General. He had never voted for a Dem before. EVER. He's 62. NEVER EVER NEVER

3. He has changed his affiliation to Independent, because,"I'm done with the GOP. They suck."

4. Then, via a series of more emails, my father has decided to start Mindfulness Meditation. My father, who thinks incense is New Agey.

I'm still working on my dad. He's resigned to a rather grumpy silence over his party the last few years, but I still have hope he'll come around.

That's wonderful news! Did you have any influence on this change, or did Bush really suck that bad for him?

My mom loves to describe the time when her father-in-law sat her and my dad down and told them all the reasons why they NEED to vote Democratic. Grandpa was 96 yrs old at the time. Instead of interrupting him to let him know they were already Democrats, they just sat and listened. They were both extremely proud. :)

My 66 y.o. father is also a disillusioned former Republican, and I mean a George-Wallace-voting hardcore RWer.

He called me today and told me that he cast his first Dem vote ever for President Obama and how impressed he was by last night's SOTU.
