1. I didn't think he was very funny when he appeared on the Daily Show
I saw ads he has his own show and just wondered why.

2. Leaning toward genius on the Daily Show, but the new show
has me thinking "wildly overrated."

But the kid sure is cute, and I loved his standup special. Very clever.

4. I think he's incredibly clever and smart. His is not a straight up kind of humor,
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 12:16 PM by Rabrrrrrr
but a subtle wordplay, intellectual, high-concept kind of humor mixed in with a bit of random slapstick pure silliness that I find fucking hilarious, and intellectually insightful.

I love his show.

He's kind of a modern day Steve Martin: heady humor, not visceral.

It would be interesting to see what he and Eddy Izzard could come up with together.

9. I wonder if he's related to Steve.

That's an apt description of him, although, I have only laughed out loud once while watching him. He was talking about how to get someone who says "tell me why I shouldn't tickle you," to not tickle you--because he said anyone who asks you that is going to tickle you no matter what you say. Must be from personal experience. Anyway he suggested answering, "I have a really bad case of diarrhea."

10. I caught a few minutes of his show.
Cracked me the hell up, but I had never heard of him.

6. In between. I like him, though.
Especially his graph showing his ability to draw mountains over time.

8. Dumb gimmicks, mostly, with a safety-net pretense of amateur cuteness
If something bombs, that way you can retreat into self-irony, rather than putting too much of yourself out there to be judged. Worked for a lot of greats, though!

12. If tonight's episode doesn't convince you that he's brilliant,
then there is no hope for you.

13. How about neither?
He's certainly not a genius but he's not overrated either. People have to know who the hell you are before you can be overrated.
