2. She chewed up three magazines
pulled the slipcover off the couch, tore up the foam, and was busy gnawing on a jug my grandpa brought back from Ethiopia when I caught her.

I just can't leave her alone for 5 minutes!

3. I have a five dollar solution.

I used one on my dog Lucy when she chewed her spaying stitches out, it worked great. I assume she is a young dog? Most dogs will do that for the first few years, when she is out of your sight you could muzzle her. My dog Lucy is still destroying things here & there but it is MY fault for leaving stuff out for her to chew on. The latest victim was my garden sprinkler- plastic chewed to pieces!

You could also buy her chew toys like rawhide bones (flavored ones would be best), it diverts their attention from other things.

8. I know how it is- I had three newborn pups in the house at one time.
My bed? They HAD to see just what made it so comfortable. I had an old leather jacket that they found quite tasty. They learned a lesson when they tried to chew electrical cords. Puppies live to chew, that's what they do. They are all over that now and everything I lost is a small price to pay for the joy they have brought to my life. I know its a pain in the ass but I would gladly go through it all over again for these guys.

This is one of the three (Larry) doing what he did best at that age.

4. I'm sorry. That sucks.
I don't really know what to do with a misbehaving pet.
Did she just randomly start doing that?

9. Believe it or not,
water in a spray bottle works with puppies too. If you are able to catch her chewing on stuff, spritz her with some water. Dogs don't like it either and it doesn't hurt them.

10. Put her on leash and tie the leash to your waist.
She'll have to follow you everywhere you go and thus be supervised. If you need a break, put her in her crate. I speak from experience. This might be a good time to start basic obedience training (down, stay) if you haven't already.

Good luck! They do grow out of it eventually.

11. She's done basic training
but I just want her to lie down and chill sometimes.

Example: I let her out of the crate. I was cooking food on the stove and she tried to jump on the stove! :o I told her no and she got down, but it was just like, dude.

Young enough to cause trouble, and big enough to cause a LOT of it. :P

15. Oh, it takes at least 18 months for them to be mature
I have 13 month old puppy which is still a big puppy. Dogs don't grow up until they are 18 months old or later so I know how you feel. Shania is driving me crazeeeeeee, she still gets into stuff and is still so puppyish at 13 months. We have to be patient until they grow up.

16. This is the lesson
The full story is that I went to the pound to get a dog, and after 30 seconds I asked them to pick a dog out for me. The lady there picked out this sad, scared little dog, and it was only after I hung out with her for a little while that I thought to ask how old she was, When they said she was 6 months, well, I would have felt like a jerk saying no.

Of course 30 seconds after I got her home the sad, scared act vanished and she's been a holy terror since. :P

18. Don't worry
When my service dog died (hearing/signal dog) I needed another dog so I went to PetsMart and got Rocky. He was 6 months old. At first he was terrible at home, tearing up stuff, etc. Today he is 20 months old and is a wonderful loving dog, well behaved one. I have people wanting to take him home whenever they meet him. I got Shania because Rocky could not be trusted without leash which a service dog must be. So when I got a purebred beauceron Shania to be my service dog. Rocky is heartbroken, wants to be first in my life. Shania is jealous.. pushes him away from me. Now I feel terrible. Rocky turned out to be an excellent dog at 20 months old. Now I am trapped..cannot choose between them so I am keeping them both, but it is not easy. I should have been patient with Rocky. He is really really a wonderful dog now. Duh!

19. The thing that adds an extra "banghead" to the story
is that three years ago Bailey was just as bad.

Now Bailey is a big, mellow goofball. :P

I know she'll grow out of it, and it can't happen too soon. :P
