If I were a musician and got asked to sing a Stevie Wonder song for the Obamas
(with Stevie Wonder present), I wouldn't know whether to vomit, crap in my pants, faint, or die of happiness.

What an honor but holy crap, my nerves would be shot! I guess that's why I'm not a musician. But even a lot of really accomplished musicians won't touch a Stevie song. And then to have to perform it for the Obamas! Yowz!

1. I love the speech that Stevie gave, especially when he started hinting about
how his music may have helped Malia and Sasha be born. :)

2. As long as I'm talking to myself, I'll go ahead and add that I'd love to hear a studio
recording of the version of Overjoyed that gorgeous woman with the huge hair sang. I'd ask if anyone knew who she was but no one seems to be reading this thread.

3. Esperanza Spalding.
Here's her website:

And I agree, she was a highlight of an hour filled with highlights. She's insanely good.

So is that Stevie guy. Someone should give him a big old award.

G'night.

6. Agreed and agreed.
I loved Stevie since I was a tiny tot. That must've been such an awesome night for everyone.

5. THANK YOU! She was amazing! She put such a nice twist on a song that always
makes me cry even though it's so cheeseball.

I'm going to check her out. Thanks again.

9. Thanks for the link. It gave me chills watching it again.
Incredibly talented and gorgeous to boot. I rarely like covers of Stevie's music (Red Hot Chili Peppers' Higher Ground being one notable exception) but I think I may have actually found a version of one of his songs that I like even better than the original (shh, don't tell).

8. Make no mistake...
...with Stevie Wonder present, I'd be singing it for Stevie Wonder.

10. Excellent point. Okay, so what song would you choose?
That would be a tough one for me, assuming I could do any of them justice (which I can't). Maybe "I Was Made to Love Her" or "As" or "Lately". I probably would've chosen "Overjoyed" but now even the fantasy professional singer version of myself won't compete with Esperanza Spaulding.

11. I love Stevie, but I'm having trouble getting over him playing with the Jonas Brothers
at the Grammys.

I'm still convinced, however, that the producers didn't TELL Stevie who they were.

12. Does have any tween daughters at this point? If he does, maybe he did it for them.
If he doesn't, maybe he has no idea who the Jonas Brothers are. I wouldn't know who they were if it wasn't for my nieces.

I'm very forgiving when it comes to Stevie. I've even forgiven him for "Part Time Lover" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You">
