I did a stupid thing and have a stupid question
I tried to widen my garage door with my side mirror on my car. The plastic casing on my side mirror cracked so now the mirror is dangling. What would be the best glue to use for the hard plastic to glue it back together?

11. I second this. TM did it to two of our cars and Mr. repaired both with
gorilla glue. Just be sure not to use too much because it expands as it dries.

4. i had to replace a side mirror and used double stick tape
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 08:28 PM by CreekDog
the dark kind, it's kind of a charcoal color.

it adheres immediately and there's no drying time.

(it's what came with the mirror btw)

5. Sometimes you can just stick it back in and not need glue
Not saying that I know this from experience or anything.

Otherwise, I have some contractor's glue that I'd probably use. Mostly just because that's the only glue I own.

10. Gorilla Glue - WARNING - DO NOT GET THIS CRAP ON YOU!
I used it to put inlaid rubber parts back in my daughter's sneakers - it glues ANYTHING together including things you don't want. It also expands and dries a sort of tan color, so keep that in mind, but appearance probably isn't the issue here.

14. You want to use a glue that employs what is called 'Chemical Solvent Weld'
Gorilla Super Glue is is a Cyanoacrylate that makes a direct bond to porous materials. The plastic in the side mirror frame will not adhere to super glue.

Same goes for regular Gorilla Glue. It is water based and will not adhere to plastic.

Same goes for most Epoxy glues. Epoxies work best on porous materials.

What you need is a glue that has Toluene in it that actually melts the plastic and allows it to reform in one piece.

Testor's plastic model cement used to be the best stuff around, but the adolescent glue sniffers caused them to change their formula and it doesn't work as well as it did back in the '60s.

<>

I have found this other glue called 'Seal All'. I get it at Big Lots. It dries clear and sticks to most plastics.

26. KW, if you did a STUPID thing, and have a STUPID question,
at least you are consistent.
That mirror is not one of the remote controled motorized mirrors, is it?

Ours cost over $300 to get fixed....
