I am in a bad mood today and to top it off my bathroom sink pipe by the wall is leaking.

If it wasn't so close to the wall I could fix it.

But no now I have to call someone to fix it.

I hope it isn't expensive.

1. Where exactly is it leaking?

2. There is a pipe coming out of the wall and then a connector screwed on to this pipe.

Then there is the rest of the pipes going to the sink.

The water is leaking out of the back of the connector thing.

There is only a tiny amount of space between the connector and the wall.


I am hoping this is not a big deal.

I was looking at a new computer today, the damn pipes knew it.

4. It is probably a slip joint...

where a smaller pipe, coming from the sink, slips into a larger pipe, coming from the wall.

They are easy to fix. but in actuality, a pain in the ass if you have to keep running back to the store for parts.

I would fix it for you if I could.

Don't let them rip you off. For a plumber with a truck full of parts, it is a small job.

7. Alright....if you want to try to stop it temporarily....

see, a lot of times, what happens is that a lot of gunk gets built up in the slip ring threads, causing it to leak.

If you plan on calling a plumber anyway, try the following....

Get a channel lock wrench or some wrench that is large enough to get around the ring. Loosen It (LEFT) very SLIGHTLY. THEN TIGHTEN IT JUST A HAIR TIGHTER THAN IT WAS BEFORE.

This should work temporarily.

If it doesn't, loosen the ring entirely, and "unslip" the pipes, and then try to put it back together again after cleaning the pipes and threads.

Please only try this stuff if you have a plumber in your pocket, because sometimes you run into stuff you can't handle.

I don't mind calling a plumber and I can go down stairs to bush my teeth.

I know my limits with the pipes.

I have a fear of walls and water pipes.

Now I helped with the pipes under the house and learned alot.

I had someone with me who knew what he was doing.

I don't like to wing it by myself.

13. Worse comes to worse...you can slip a pan under the leak....

Trust me...I've screwed up so many plumbing jobs...I can't even count how many.

I like doing plumbing jobs, learned a lot working on this house.

We had all knew plumbing put in, this a 1930 built house.

Part of the deal was, I was a helper.

Saved a lot of money.
