I just watched Raising Arizona for the first time in years

I've always loved it, but having a toddler myself now made it even better.

It's also interesting seeing some of the dramatic motifs that show up in a bunch of the Coen's movies, like kidnapping (and crime gone awry in general), uncanny and almost supernatural trackers, prophecies of offspring, surprisingly eloquent dumbasses, references to other movies (I caught Mad Max, Dr. Strangelove, and Night of the Hunter - anyone else notice any others?), etc.

Some great dialog in there too. The conversation between HI and his cellmate about crawdad is just a little throwaway bit, but it's totally hilarious. And for all that it is filled with cartoony slapstick, it is pretty genuine and touching in a lot of places too.

Anyway, if any of you have somehow missed this one, it's really a great movie.

Damn good movie,saw it 4-5 times and back then I was pretty much always smockin' witch added to

the weird and cool factor of the movie.

7. I love his Wile E. Coyote moment when

the Warthog from Hell drags him out from under the car. That look on his face and the way his fingers try to dig into the ground is priceless. The fingers digging into the ground is like the last bit of hope he's got in that fight, but he's going with it all the way. I love that! :rofl:

I wanted to marry Holly Hunter for the longest time after seeing that movie. :loveya:

9. I'm having a mini Coen brothers film fest right now.

Watch them all in a row and it's really easy to pick out their style. They have a fun, sort of retro visual sensibility, definitely a fondness for the charming and kind of doofus-y underdog, and a talent for the zinger that isn't funny in and of itself, but in context, is completely, totally, laugh-out-loud funny. Plus, just general weirdness. :D

10. "What's the rumpus?"

Millers Crossing is, by far, my favorite. Once you piece together the convoluted plot and decipher Albert Finney and Gabriel Byrne's dialogue that is. ;-) Jon Polito's scene with his kid is hi-larious. An underrated gem. :D


p.s. The 'Danny Boy' scene is a classic.

It was clip where Hi was saying, "We got us a FAM-lee!"

I love that film to this day, and it is one I will drop everything to watch. We tend to use quote from it an awful lot--so much, in fact, that our 11 year old uses them now, too. She hears us use them so often they have become part of HER speech.
