I need to buy 4 "grandpa sweaters"..(zip or button up cardigans) for my husband
and I cannot find any.. I even looked at Goodwill & Salvation Army..

The ONLY ones I have found so far are $45-50..and there's NO way i'm paying that for a sweater to hang on the back of his office chair..

I found two last year at Target, and I accidentally washed them..(didn;t notice they were dry clean only)

He's pissed that I ruined them, and now I cannot find any reasonably priced ones..
any ideas??

I even checked Craigs list..

3. You probably need to check clearance

Not sure what exactly you're looking for but here's a cardigan at Target:

http://www.target.com/Merona-Cardigan-Black/dp/B001P212JA/qid=1235816785/ref=br_1_7/177-6537078-7141916?ie=UTF8&node=14218261&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14218261&rank=-product_site_launch_date&rh=&page=1

And I found a couple other cardigans in the clearance section on the Target website.

On Edit: You should definitely look on Macy's clearance section. They have a ton of men's cardigan sweaters. You might have to go a few pages to find the good deals, but they are very nice.

4. Have you tried the Eddie Bauer sale site?
I'd say Ross but their selection for men is usually pretty terrible, imo.

6. That's what I call them too!
Have you tried Landsend, or LL Bean? They usually have styles to keep the fashion challenged comfortable.

7. Retail, I think I've found them at Sears and JC Penney's, but they might be out of season by now.
The other option is Haband (link below) - $15.99 button up cardigan, 2 for $29.99 - and no I don't work there. My late father-in-law ordered almost all of his clothes from there and they are very good quality.

9. You might look on eBay - I had the same problem trying to
find a full zipper hooded sweat shirt - in the stores ther were too much money and most had skater/snowboard stuff on them.

found a great one on eBay for about $25.

FWIW, I love those old man sweaters, being an old man myself.

16. My husband always hated sweaters, but then his boss re-did the heating/AC set up at work
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 06:28 PM by SoCalDem
and for some reason, my husband's office is now officially the "coldest place in Southern California".. He's always complaining about being cold, but usually does not like to wear long sleeved shirts, because his commute home in the afternoon, is in a car with less than adequate AC..so a sweater is a handy compromise:)

10. Probably expensive as balls, but Urban Outfitters might have some.
Cardigans are pretty standard hipster apparel.

13. eBay is great for finding EXACTLY the clothing item you want.

Sometimes you have to be persistent and keep checking back, though. But there was a denim skirt I had for years that I LOVED, and it got wrecked. I wanted THAT skirt back, but it was never gonna be on the shelves again, and the odds of finding it in a thrift shop - in my size - essentially nil. Lo and behold, I found it after a few months of looking on eBay, and got it for a song. That happened with an older pair of dress pants and a name brand shirt, too. In this case, even if hubby doesn't want those exact same sweaters back, you can probably find something he likes for a good price.

Good luck.

18. they are the quintessential "old folks clothes" website
what does it say about me that I not only know the site, but have ordered from them :hide:

but I love their womens Dr Scholl's moccasin things

http://www.haband.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/categoryID/a10415cc-e1c7-43dd-aebe-4095698d32e1/productID/e2526e52-db6f-4732-aab9-4f11c82f7300/

what can I say, they're comfy, come in several colors and are cheap enough that when they wear out it's no worries to buy a couple more pairs.....

In fact, I need to order a pair now!!

17. For years, I kept a cardigan on the back of my office chair,

never took it home except to wash it. Then somebody stole it. :wtf: It wasn't like it was haute couture, you know?

I'm glad you found the men's cardigans you needed. A cardigan is a good friend when it gets cold in the office.
