The toilet seat.

All my life I've seen women go ballistic when the toilet seat gets left up and they fall in. So many times I've been told it is the responsibility of men to make sure they put it down when their done.

Well... I'm calling bullshit. I say if women are to lazy to look before sitting they deserve to fall in. I mean, come on. If a guy peed on the seat and got mad because a woman forgot to put it back up, we all know that would'nt fly.

6. I once threatened to install a spring on the toilet seat

so that it would pull down unless it was held up while the user was using it. And anyhow, how would you like it if it worked the other way and the seat snapped UP while you were using it? It is a matter of simple courtesy. Be a gentleman.

If you are disrespecting your wife/SO by failing to observe the simple courtesy of putting the seat down, you are suggesting to her that her feelings/comfort/convenience are not important to you. That's why she's pissed off. Get a clue, dude. It doesn't cost you anything to put the damn seat down.

23. I have used toilets that snap up.

They used to have some like that in one of our schools here years ago. The seat's natural position was between down and up and you had to sit on it to make it go down. I hated it. I'm paranoid about public toilets. So, I'm one of those people who lays toilet paper on the seat before I sit. Those made it really hard because I had to lean in and hold my knee on it to hold it down and then spin around really fast to get my ass on the seat once I got my mildly (but better than nothing) protective TP barrier set up. That was a royal pain in the ass.

I've never understood this ongoing war of the sexes. Just put the entire contraption in the fully closed position each time. Nobody falls in, nobody forgets, and nothing falls in or drinks out of it.

We have a slow closer but you have to manually start the process by bringing the seat/lid forward just a bit by hand, which once you get used to that can be a problem when you're at someone elses house and you forget their lids/seats don't slow close. *crash*

The super-deluxe catheter packs lubricate themselves (so they're easy to go in) and they catch your pee for you. No need for the toilet at all. It helps if you have a special stoma to pee out of too.

It don't matter in our house anyway. Plus some of the public toilets in the UK - the seats were physically part of the toilet bowl. You can't lift them.

the seat should always be down. If it's a batchelor pad, let the women make up their minds about the guys by how they view the position of the toilet seat.

I have to get up and go in the middle of the night. I don't want to wake completely up, and don't want to turn on the overhead light if I don't have to. I don't want to have to look, feel, or think.

Another thing is, when men live with you the toilet gets alot dirtier alot quicker under the seat. And guess who cares enough to do the extra cleaning, also to prevent the smell of piss to start to appear --- its' always the women.

I think in this one area, women's wishes trump everything. Or else they are with a man who has no respect.

Personally I think the whole lid should be down when not in use so things don't accidentally fall in, as rare an occurrence as that may seem to be.

I haven't fallen IN a toilet, but I HAVE mistakenly sat down on a toilet with the lid up, and believe me it is not a pleasant experience. So men, if you share a bed with your women, do not let them come back to bed grumpy after having sat on a seatless toilet. It will spoil the mood for a good time to come.

But, hey, your priorities are your priorities! heh heh heh !

(I wonder how many so-called 'frigid women' sleep with men who leave the seat up . . . . might be something to look into. . . )

29. I'm just curious... is there that much of a difference between the

"target" area when the seat is down or up? Seems to me the seat only adds - what an inch around the circumference (or rather, subtracts it). So, is it necessary for the seat to actually "go" up? Or is there a clean-up factor involved (sorry) that is thought not necessary if the base - not the seat is involved (that's a big 'eww' I would think, and if that's the case, then each person should clean up after themselves be it rim or seat or whatever... ).

In the most basic terms, the seat is used by all - depending on what one's activity is. Therefore, my guess is that the seat down position is the more universal, customary position of the seat. As someone else mentioned, it's probably most 'polite' to leave the entire seat and cover closed, but that could be a pain after a while. I dunno.

When I was married the seat would be up now and then when I didn't expect it (or wasn't fully awake - porcelain is much colder than fiberglass or whatever it is they make the seats out of) and YES - if you're slim and not paying attention, it's not much fun and I don't know about being actually -stuck- but it's not cool and it's not designed for such.

Considering the fact that one position could be very unpleasant (or even hurt) and another position doesn't - I think I'd have to vote for leaving the seat down.

Better yet - do what my family did - keep the bathrooms separate. My dad and brother shared a bathroom, and my mother and I shared the other (the tub/shower area was between the two bathrooms) and it worked out very well that way. The downstairs bathroom was for everyone/guests - seat was always down.....

Come to think of it - that's the way my situation is now - my housemate has the master bath and I have the little one. I like it that way. : )
