roaches in the kitchen, filthy dishes all over the place, garbage piled up. A total health hazard. I haven't watched it since because that episode bothered me so much.

I'm kind of "casual" about housework at times but wow, I'm only a minor league slob compared to the people on this show. Makes me feel a little better :)

9. Pretty clean - small amounts of clutter start driving me insane after a few days

And I'm pretty good at going through the house and freecycling stuff twice a year, and finding stuff for the church thrift sale and whatnot. And I don't buy new clothes without taking out the old ones.

But, in terms of "am I scrubbing the bathroom every day with bleach", then, no, I live in a shithole. The cleaning lady does that every month; I do superficial cleaning.

12. The people

who end up on this show haven't ever heard of a cleaning lady. They haven't ever once picked up anything... ever. They sleep, eat and I assume bathe is absolute shit. Last week a woman was on who had a chewing gum fixation and she would just drop her gum where ever she was - She never replaced caps on bottles and the inside of her fridge was so scary I shrieked when they showed it... (I also got up and immediately cleaned my refrigerator - (mine wasn't even close to being the health hazard I saw on the TV but I had to clean my refrigerator... RIGHT NOW!)

If you watch the show, you will not believe what you are seeing.

Oh, and my kids LOVE the show too... They react just like me and start cleaning:)

15. I've watched bits of the show a few times, and it grosses me out and makes me insane.

I can't stand looking at all that shit. I don't even like my shelves or furniture tops to have very many items on them.

I'm very minimalist. Things in their place, as little visible as possible, as much open space as I can handle.

Though the part of those shows I like is seeing the shit being taken out, and clean come in. And not clean in the sense of no more bacteria or disease, that doesn't gross me out as much; it's the clean in the sense of "I can see the floor and the furniture and anything that's in the house now is something that's actually being used for something".

Perhaps I have the opposite of the hoarding, piles-of-shit mentality.


Probably also one of the reasons I like Wyoming and South Dakota so much - just wide open space, with very little cluttering up the view or the landscape.

18. Oh, you missed the cleaning woman show.

No kidding, one of the houses they cleaned belonged to a woman who made her living...drum roll...as a cleaning woman! Hadn't cleaned her house for several years, said she didn't have any desire to clean her own house after cleaning other people's houses all day. I can see her point but damn, her house was really scary.

35. Clutter and paper in my office is my biggest downfall.

I generate so much paperwork for my job and at times it is hard to keep up.

I also donate things to Goodwill 5-6 times a year and there has been a dumpster in my driveway on more than one occasion.

I've heard some women brag that their kitchen floors are so "clean" that you can eat off them.

Well, my kitchen floor is covered with stuff you can probably eat, if you don't mind a little salmonella.

19. I've seen a number of episodes. Some of those people must be mentally/emotionally ill to

live in the filth they live in. Anyone see the dogwalker guy who threw his used kleenex all over the apartment? He seemed like a nice guy, but for his filth habit.

Watching this show always gets me off my ass to clean something, and my house is pretty clean anyway.

Also, some of their cleaning tips are good--I've used their tip of cleaning mirrors and picture glass with coffe filters--no lint whatsoever.

a junk drawer is the one the flatware is in. That is probably because the drawer is just barely big enough to hold the little flatware tray.

I would be ok if someone with bad eyesight visited, but anybody else would make me nervous. The living room is actually not too bad in terms of clutter (for me) but there is the usual layer of dust, cat hair and Watson feathers coating things. Bathroom needs going over but not bad for 4 people using it. Kitchen. Hmmm work areas and table ok. Cupboards and fridge ok. Floor and oven: need major work. Kids rooms? Keep out DANGER. My room is piled. (why the living room isn't so bad at the moment:rofl: )

31. My house is a mess, but it's not entirely our own fault.

The place is falling apart (most recently, half of the living room floor is now a mass of holes under the carpet) and the roof leaks badly, so we have run out of places to put things where they won't (a) fall down because of a hole, or (b) get soaked when it rains.

It's also difficult-to-impossible to run a vacuum over a floor with huge holes under the carpet. You should see us walking through--it looks like we're walking across train tracks, stepping from one stable support beam to the other. Ugh.

I cannot WAIT to get out of this place. Fall semester cannot come soon enough. If we'd been able to find good homes for some of the cats we're caring for, we would have left a month ago, but we couldn't, and we can't just drop them off at the shelter. And of course, it's damned near impossible to find an apartment complex willing to let us have Toby, so we're pretty much stuck here until we manage to convince some landlord that our perfectly-behaved-but-large dog isn't going to destroy their property. The sad part is that Toby doesn't chew things, doesn't "dig," and has literally *never* had a bathroom accident in the house--not even the time that I was taken to the ER and he was stuck at home for 15 hours without a bathroom break. He's a fantastic dog. I wish I could convince the local landlords of it. :(

34. Actually, extremely clean. I try to keep up with picking up, laundry

dishes, etc every day and then Brenda the Goddess of Housekeeping comes in every other week.

I wipe the bathrooms down every day, sweep or vacuum every day, dust every other day.

I can't stand mess.

I have stuff that I would like to clean up but I have nowhere to put it.

Books and clothes are the problem. I have a small closet and a small dresser for vast amounts of clothes. I have four small bookshelves for books, which doesn't even come close to what's needed. I would put most of it in the shop (second garage), but that place is full of stuff and you already can't really move around in there. There are 8++ boxes of books in there already, in addition to camping gear, christmas stuff, two desks, a bunch of assorted furniture, and miscellaneous gardening stuff.

I have decided that the solution is to get two HUGE bookshelves and a couple armoires from Ikea, and turn the shop into a giant closet-cum-library, but I don't have the cashola for more furniture right now. x(
