The hills of home.. The Kentucky Knobs.
I grew up (jr high, high school, & college years) in the Knob country just south of Louisville, KY. This is a really pretty region, sort of a miniature appalchia well to the west of the true mountains of eastern Kentucky. The Knobs close to Louisville are largley parkland...Iroquois Park (well within the city limits) and the further out Jefferson County Memorial Forest.

But theres not much online that I could post to share with folks. I did find the following pix to show folks what a scenic area this is.

The Kentuky Knobs...looking out over the Bluegrass:

2. And some pix a bit closer to home.
Heres some pix taken from the roof of the old Waverly Hills santiorum, (wich looks like a gothic castle) very close to where I lived...within walking distance.

Looking across the Pond Creek Valley towards Moremans Hill & Dodge Gap.

Looking across the Ohio River valley toward the Indiana Knobs

I've lived alot of places, but these high hills and valleys will aways be home to me.

5. whats suprising about this...
...is these hills are 15 minutes or less from downtown Louisville.

The hill inside the city limits, Burnt Knob, became Iroquis Park, and is connected to the city by the bouelevard, Southern Parkway.

The park& parkway was one of Fredick Law Olmsteads last commisions...this was the same landscape architect responsible for the Back Bay Fens and Franklin Park (I think) in Boston. There are outstanding scenic overlooks over downtown Louisville and the surrounding countryside from this park.

I, unfortunatly, have not been able to find pix of those.
