Forgotten pop stars of the early '80s: FRANKE & THE KNOCKOUTS.

Franke and the Knockouts were a soft-rock quintet from New Brunswick, New Jersey. They made the Billboard Hot 100 chart exactly three times, with "Sweetheart" (#10, 1981), "You're My Girl" (#27, 1981), and "Without You (Not Another Lonely Night)" (#24, 1982).

In 1987, Jimmy Ienner--president of the Knockouts' old record label, Millennium--remembered lead singer Franke Previte when he was looking for songs for the film DIRTY DANCING. Previte wound up co-writing "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life," a #1 smash for Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes, which won an Oscar for Best Original Song. It was featured on the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack, which sold more than 11 million copies in the United States.
