10. People taking *extremely* personal calls at their desk
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 10:10 AM by TXlib
and glaring at me, like *I* should go away, or plug my ears!

Lady, you're talking on a FRICKIN' CELL PHONE! Go the frick outside!!!

Honestly, I don't care if the test came back positive, or about your child support arguments with your ex, or about which of your friends has a court appearance this week.

I only peer over the wall of my cube at you because the inane chatter is distracting, or because I heard you utter the words "anus" and "Tinker Toy" in juxtaposition, and I wanted to see if you're just messing with me!

On Edit:
On the same level is when several coworkers gather in the cube next to mine for a gossip party, and then accuse me of eavesdropping. :wtf:

11. The infamous "bosses birthday" ritual
Where I used to work (almost a year ago now) we went through the annual bosses birthday ritual. The office manager would pass around an envelope into which everybody would deposit cash and then initial. The cash would then be used to purchase a birthday present for the boss. On the big day, all the employees would be called into the conference room and the office manager would present the boss with the gift on behalf of all the employees. The boss would open the gift, feign surprise, and thank the employees for their generosity.

He had outlawed overtime for the production types, cut commissions to the sales and customer service types and randomly dismissed a lot of people. Everybody was so pissed off at him that when the envelope for the present got around to me it had ONLY PENNIES in it. Nevertheless, the office manager would purchase an expensive present OUT OF HER OWN POCKET, and proceed with the ritual completely undaunted.

I hated it!

12. The ubersensitive chip-shoulder types who hang on your every word
just praying that you'll say something that they can misconstrue as offensive, then run to the supervisor. "Guess what *X* said!?!?!?" Then you have to come in for a closed-door 'conference.'

14. Liars! I hate liars. In politics and at work.
There is a coworker of mine who lies about people all the time, but since she is most likely sleeping with on of the married, big bosses she gets away with it. And get others in a lot of trouble with her lies.

15. See my nursing in jeopardy post.
Nursing is in grave danger of imploding. I don't know how much more we can tolerate? The provided survey was from 1999-2000. it is a hole lost worse now with the *bush administration catering to corporate whimes of escalating their profits! Oh, and lets not forget the pharmaceutical companies and insurance crooks too.

20. Cheapskate customers
I have customers who are attempting to build entire houses with damaged materials. The house looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and there's a huge split in the toilet, but it was fifty percent off!

Anyway, one fine day I came in two hours early and culled all the drywall. We had a few pieces of really torn-up stuff; I cut it into quarters, threw it in a box and marked it $1.92 a piece. It took about an hour to sell through it all--people getting ready to move like buying it that way to fix the holes their kids kicked in the walls. When we unlocked the doors, I had no broken-up pieces of drywall left.

Then I went to work on some other stuff at the front of the store that kept me in close proximity to the drywall. Nothing was damaged in that time.

About four hours after we opened, someone came up and asked for a sheet of damaged drywall. "We don't have any, sorry." "Oh yes you do. I'll show it to you." He did. It was a piece with a little tiny tear on the edge--with a twelve-foot pile of drywall sitting on top of it. Literally the bottom sheet in the whole stack. And the damage was superficial enough that we wouldn't have marked it down anyway. But he started making such a fuss that I called the store manager.

My boss came over and the customer started yelling that he wanted "that" sheet and the uncooperative employee wasn't getting it for him. After telling the guy no, he called me off to the side for a little conference.

"We're going to get a forklift. You know what to do, right?"
'Drop a bunk of drywall down in front of that dinged sheet so no one else sees it, right?'
"No, drop two bunks of drywall down in front of it. We'll sell through one way too quickly."
