Bandit On The Loose Stealing BBQ Lids

The barbecue season is going to be a little tough for some Skokie residents.

That's because there is a bandit loose in the northern suburb and he's taking off with a prized piece of BBQ equipment -- the grill lids.

In the last two months, Skokie police have documented 15 cases of gas grill thefts. The thefts have all occurred in the city's east side and have happened during daylight hours.

Police have issued a community crime alert to notify residents to the problem.

No word yet if police are planning a "steak out.''
