9. according to the bible
nobody who dies goes to heaven until after the judgement day.

until then, their body just rots away in some hole in the ground.

unless they've been cremated.

i was raised a christian, and even though i'm now atheist, it bugs me when people who claim to be religious, and believe in heaven, don't even understand how it works...

stating that the resurrection of the faithful does not occur immediately upon death; I guess I'd ask God if we will be reunited one day...

Honestly, you don't. Interpretations of scripture vary, and I honestly doubt that God is forced to do things a certain way just because of what the bible says.

75. i'm saying that if people are going to believe in God and Heaven & Hell,
and jebus and all, they should at least try to get the story straight- it's like when some beloved celebrity or something dies, there's always an editorial cartoon in the newspaper showing st. Peter greeting them at the pearly gates, sometimes with a crowd of other dead clebs there to greet them as well...and it's just been a pet peeve of mine ever since when i was a good little lutheran boy-
i'm not aware of any christian religions that teach that souls go to heaven upon death (maybe there are, i'm just not aware of it) because that's not how it's written...only jebus got to do that. for the rest of us mortals, we gotta wait til judgement day.
It's all there in the book.

...In response to Grannylib's initial post. You could have posted that view, which is a perfectly acceptable opinion, by responding to the original message and it would have appeard lower in the thread. It was hurtful to make a statement like that directly to Grannylib.

Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 07:45 PM by Beaker
didn't he say "The Lord, your God, is a JEALOUS God"???

and what would you call a deity that would condemn a person's eternal soul to eternal torment for a minor infraction but a vindictive vengeful and petty deity?
a truly loving god would simply either accept your shortcomings, or obliterate your faulty soul from existence- to send it to hell for eternity is just a tad psychotic, if you ask me.

116. there are some basic tenets shared by all organized "christian" religions.
and one of the basics is acceptance of the bible as the official playbook. with more import placed on the new testament than the old, since that is where christ's teachings are found- for christians, the new testament trumps the old- not that the old is not important, just not as much so as the new.

but it's all just a bunch of hooey anyway....no matter which flavor of christian you're talking about.

everyone else on this fucking planet have babies but me? I do everything right, I have a great marriage, a brand new home, and lots of love, and yet I have heartache every month. I would ask why God allows children to be born into abusive environments while I'm here with empty arms. What did I ever do? Sorry to go off like that, but some days it's harder to take than others. I guess I just don't understand God very much.

38. My mom had the same problem
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 04:26 PM by The Democratic Kid
except she was also very sick, the Dr.s told her she would never be able to give birth. So my mom and dad adopted me. I was 2 months old and I was born 3 days before the end of the Cuban missile crises, and the Vietnam war was going on , So there was a lot going on. When I was 4 years old I told mom I wish for a baby brother and a year later my brother was born, healthy and normal the Dr.s said it was a miracle. So God may be waiting for you to adopt first. Take Care and good luck, The Democratic Kid...

39. I would love to adopt, and we have looked into it.
The problem is that it costs about $25,000 on average to adopt. Plus I have a history of mental illness, and while it wouldn't stop me from being a great mother, it might stop me from being approved for adoption. I was a "miracle" child myself. The doctors told my mother that she would never be able to carry children to term after my brother died. Thanks for your post. I know that God does care and is looking out for me, but sometimes it's hard not to get sad and angry at the same time.

I know it sounds stupid, but I read an article ages ago about how women who were taking it (it's in cough meds) and had a history of infertility and had conceived .. I had two friends who had gone through tons of tests, tried in vitro ..the works.. and nothing worked..

I mentioned it to them, and BOTH ended up with babies ..

I tried Robitussen one cycle. What it does is loosen up your CM so you have more EWCM. It definitely works. If you don't have much EWCM, take Robitussen 3x a day during the closest 5 days to O. I'm trying Evening Primrose Oil thios month for CM instead of Robitussen. If you do use it, make sure it's plain Robitussen (guaifenessen only)."

51. Yup. Tried it numerous times.
My cycles are really screwed up, not to mention my elevated prolactin levels and my husband's sexual dysfunctions. The odds are really stacked against us. It's all in God's hands now because I've done everything I can.

55. History of mental illness?
Which one?

I have depression, and when my husband left me, he got custody of the kids because he has enough "dirt" on my emotional state that he could portray me as a complete wack-job if he wanted to.

Also, many mental illnesses (mine included) are hereditary. I fear that my sons might wind up being depressives too.

I guess what I'm saying is think it over *very* carefully before you decide to have kids. Everyone should, but the mentally ill *especially* need to.

97. I am so sorry to hear that you are going through the pain of infertility..
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 10:28 AM by grannylib
I don't have that particular issue, but I think I understand somewhat how you feel, when I see articles about parents trying to kill their own children, when mine was taken from me and I loved her like my life...I don't understand either why some people who would make outstanding, loving parents are so afflicted, when those who have no business jumping into the gene pool can breed at will...sorry if that sounds horribly snotty, it's not meant to, but I have dear friends who are struggling with this too, and it's heartbreaking...
as an adoptee I do feel however that maybe there is some reason for loving people like you wanting children so badly...maybe there is a child out there already who needs you. I realize that it is not the same as carrying a child that you conceived, but I know many many people to whom adoption has brought untold joy...
will be thinking of and praying for you...blessings...

110. Thank you for your kind and uplifting words.
I would love desparatley to adopt, but we just don't have the means to pay at least $25,000 dollars in legal fees. And I think my past medical history might disqualify me. It's very sad because all we want in the world is to be parents, be it biologically or through adoption. Thank you for your blessings and prayers.

50. "Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz?"
JANIS JOPLIN LYRICS

"Mercedes Benz"

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That’s it!

112. God doesn't interfere with affairs of the earth....
it's us humans who have caused most of that.

randomness and back luck caused the rest..

it's also us humans who have done great things...created great cities, technology, cured diseases, left our planet and walked on the moon...

some of that is also randomness and luck.

Heyo

109. It would probably involve something along the lines of free-will& destiny
The concept of an omnipotent God who knew what our lives were going to be before we were even born, but then we have free-will. How is that possible?
Plus, I like to live my life thinking there's some kind of plan, destiny, or higher purpose, especially at times of difficulty or suffering, but then what if it is all just randomness?
Sometimes my heart or gut tells me one thing and practically tells me something else. I get too wrapped up in having to understand things though. I should probably take a more Taoist approach and just "be" at times, but that's really, really hard for me to do.
